Ceramic Tiles

Ceramic tiles are among the most versatile surfaces for the home — beautifully glazed, hardwearing and suited to walls and floors across kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and living spaces. At Hyperion Tiles we stock an extensive ceramic range spanning classic and contemporary looks, including designs from Ca'Pietra, Fired Earth and Original Style.

Ceramic and porcelain tiles are often confused: both are fired clay, but porcelain is denser and fully vitrified for heavy-traffic and outdoor use, while glazed ceramic is lighter, easy to cut and ideal for walls, splashbacks and gentle-to-moderate floor areas. Free cut samples let you compare finishes in your own light before you commit.

Collection highlights:

  • Finishes: Gloss, matt, crackle-glaze, handmade & textured
  • Formats: Metro, square, hexagon, brick & large-format
  • Suitability: Walls, splashbacks & interior floors
  • Styles: Patterned, plain, zellige & Victorian

Ceramic Tile FAQs

What is the difference between ceramic and porcelain tiles?
Both are made from fired clay, but porcelain is denser, harder and fully waterproof, making it ideal for floors and outdoor use. Glazed ceramic is lighter and easier to cut, making it a popular choice for walls, splashbacks and interior floors.

Can ceramic tiles be used on floors?
Yes — many ceramic tiles are rated for interior domestic floors. For heavy-traffic areas, hallways or commercial settings, porcelain is the more hardwearing choice.

Are ceramic tiles suitable for bathrooms and wet areas?
Glazed ceramic tiles are water-resistant and well suited to bathroom and kitchen walls, splashbacks and shower surrounds. For wet-room floors, choose a slip-rated porcelain.

Do ceramic tiles need sealing?
Glazed ceramic does not need sealing — the glaze is impervious, though grout joints benefit from it. Unglazed or handmade ceramics may need a sealant; our team can advise per range.

Do you offer samples and UK delivery?
Yes — order free cut samples to see the colour and glaze in your own light, visit our Ascot showroom, and enjoy free UK delivery on orders over £1,000.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between ceramic and porcelain tiles?

Both are fired clay tiles, but porcelain is made from a denser, more refined clay fired at a higher temperature, making it harder, less porous and highly suited to floors and wet areas. Ceramic is a little softer and more porous, which makes it lighter, easy to cut and ideal for walls — though many floor-rated ceramics are also available. Each product page confirms where a tile can be used.

Are ceramic tiles suitable for floors?

Many are, but it depends on the individual tile. Wall ceramics have a softer glaze not intended for underfoot wear, while floor-rated ceramics and porcelains are made to take the traffic. The product page shows each tile's suitability and, where relevant, its slip rating — our team is always happy to recommend the right tile for a floor.

Do ceramic tiles need sealing?

The glazed surface of a ceramic tile is non-porous and effectively self-protecting, so it doesn't need sealing and wipes clean easily. The exceptions are crackle-glazed and any unglazed or natural-finish tiles, which should be sealed. Grout lines can always benefit from a grout protector, and we'll flag any tile that needs extra care.

Will the colour vary between ceramic tiles?

A degree of variation is normal and, with handmade and artisan glazes, very much part of the appeal. We recommend ordering from a single batch where possible and mixing tiles from several boxes as you fix, so any natural variation in tone is spread evenly across the wall or floor rather than appearing in patches.

How many ceramic tiles should I order?

Measure your area in square metres, add around 10% for cuts and breakages (a little more for diagonal or patterned layouts), and round up to whole boxes. It's worth keeping a few spare tiles for any future repairs, since glazes can vary between production runs. Our team can help you check quantities before you order.

Can I order a ceramic tile sample before I commit?

Yes — glaze, colour and finish are best judged in your own light. We offer free cut samples to collect from our Ascot showroom, or posted for a small postage charge, and you're very welcome to visit the showroom to see the full ceramic range in person.

Ceramic Tiles

Our ceramic tiles collection brings together one of the most versatile and characterful of all tile types — from glazed wall tiles in every colour to hard-wearing floor ceramics and porcelains. Whether you're tiling a kitchen splashback, a bathroom or a whole floor, you'll find a vast choice here at Hyperion Tiles.

Ceramic and Porcelain

Ceramic and porcelain are both fired clay, but porcelain is denser, harder and less porous — ideal for floors and wet areas — while glazed ceramic is lighter and perfect for walls. Our range spans both, in finishes from crackle glazes and metro bricks to stone, marble and concrete effects. Each product page confirms where a tile can be used.

Hard-Wearing and Easy to Live With

The glazed surface of a ceramic tile wipes clean and needs no sealing, making it a practical, low-maintenance choice for busy rooms. For floors, choose a floor-rated tile with a suitable slip rating; our team is always happy to point you to the right options for each space.
