Product story

The Working Line at Chair Height

Where a tiled dado has to stop, this stepped 152 x 40mm profile in deep green makes the join: the Artworks Edwardian Green Albert Moulding, from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.

The Albert is a plain dado cap — a stepped profile with flat faces and crisp arrises, and no ornament anywhere on it. Its 40mm face gives the top of a tiled run a definite, shelf-like edge, and the step casts a straight horizontal shadow that draws the line of the dado clean across a wall. It earns its place by being unfussy: it takes the knocks a wall gets at chair-back height, and a wipe puts it right again.

That practicality suits the places Edwardian tiling actually went — the hallway and vestibule of a terrace, where coats, bags and furniture meet the wall daily. Run it at the top of a half-height scheme with warm white or stone paintwork above, and the glaze reads as a deep, even green along the whole length, with a little less of the mottling a copper-based glaze gives. Because the profile is plain and level, it also shows up any wander in the tiling below, so it rewards careful setting out.

Delivery

In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.

Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.

When your order arrives

Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

Can Edwardian Green tiles be used in a shower or wet room?

Yes — and this is the colour that was made for it. Original Style developed Edwardian Green specifically for wet areas: showers, wet rooms, bathrooms and the wall behind a kitchen sink. It is made with a copper-free glaze recipe, which stands up to constant water better than the copper-based greens do. You still need a properly tanked substrate, a white flexible adhesive and a grout rated for wet areas, but the glaze itself is impervious and needs no sealing.

Can I use these on the floor?

No — Artworks is a wall range only. The ceramic body is not rated for foot traffic and the gloss glaze would scratch and lose its shine quickly underfoot. For a floor to sit beneath an Edwardian Green wall, a Victorian-style geometric floor or an encaustic-effect tile is the historically correct partner, and our team can help you pair one.

Will the colour be consistent across my order?

The Artworks glazes are applied over a pressed ceramic body and slight variation from tile to tile is part of the character rather than a fault — it is what stops a large tiled wall looking printed. Variation between production batches can be a little greater, so order the whole of a room in one go where you can, and mix tiles from several boxes as you set out rather than working box by box.

What adhesive and grout should I use with Edwardian Green?

Use a white flexible tile adhesive, which keeps the glaze reading true. For grout, aim for the middle: a mid to deep grey, or a soft green-grey close to the tile's own tone. Brilliant white draws a hard bright grid over a colour this saturated and fights it. Charcoal or black goes the other way and weighs the green down until it reads as a far darker colour than it is — precisely the effect Edwardian tiling was moving away from. A grey a shade or two darker than the wall you want lets the green stay green.

Is Edwardian Green in stock, and how quickly can I have it?

The range is usually held in stock and we can normally despatch within a few working days; mouldings and trims occasionally run on a longer lead time, so it is worth a call on 01344 620211 before you plan the fitting week. UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000, and we can hold a delivery back until your site is ready.

How does Edwardian Green compare with the other greens in the Artworks range?

Edwardian Green is the wet-area sibling of Victorian Green. Original Style describe it as offering most of the grandeur of Victorian Green while using a copper-free glaze recipe, which makes it the more hardwearing of the two in a shower or wet room. The trade-off is slightly less of the depth and natural variation that copper-based glazes give, so it reads a shade more subdued and a little more even across a wall. The other three greens are different colours rather than different depths: Pavilion Green is a brighter, more saturated mid green, Palm Green leans warm and leafy, and Jade Breeze is the palest, with a cool blue-grey cast. Cut samples are the only reliable way to choose between them, and we are happy to send several.

Can I see a sample before I order?

Yes. Cut samples are free to collect from our Ascot showroom, or we can post one to you for the cost of postage. Seeing the glaze in your own light is the surest way to judge how it will sit against your paint, stone and metalwork.

How much extra should I order for cuts and wastage?

As a guide, add around 10% to your measured area for cuts and breakages, and nearer 15% for a herringbone, diagonal or brick-bond layout. It is also worth keeping a few spare tiles from the same batch in case a repair is ever needed.

Which pieces are available in Edwardian Green?

We stock seventeen: the 152mm field tile and its half tile, a 228 x 75mm large brick, bevelled metro tiles in 150 x 75mm and 75 x 75mm, a skirting tile, a plain cornice, and ten mouldings — Victoria, Egg & Dart, Dentil, Hogarth, Albert, Rope, Astragal, Scroll, Sigma and Omega. Original Style also make the Artworks external corner trim to order in Edwardian Green, so if a scheme needs a wrapped outside corner rather than a mitre, call us on 01344 620211 — made-to-order pieces can carry a minimum order quantity and a longer lead time. Tell us the room and we will work out what you need.

How do I finish the top of a half-height tiled wall?

With a moulding laid horizontally along the top course. The choice is a matter of weight: the Victoria and Plain Cornice at 75mm give a substantial architectural capping, the Egg & Dart and Dentil carry relief ornament, the Albert, Hogarth and Rope sit in the middle, and the Astragal, Sigma, Scroll and Omega are slim beads for a quieter line. All are supplied four to a box covering 0.6 linear metres. Measure the run, add 10%, and round up.

Installation & Care Tips

Installation & care

  • Adhesive & Grout: Bed everything on white flexible adhesive, then grout in grey — mid to deep — or in a green-grey lifted from the glaze. Go brilliant white and the joints jump forward as a lattice of pale lines with the colour trapped behind them; go charcoal or black and the joints pull the whole run down, so the wall ends up reading darker than the tile itself. Haze will settle on glaze this glossy, so wash down while the grout is still fresh.
  • Layout: Fix the cap at chair-back height, a little under a metre in most rooms, and test that line against the skirting, the door architraves and any fitted furniture before a single piece goes on — a dado that misses those junctions by 20mm is very hard to disguise afterwards. Strike a level right across the wall first, since a plain stepped profile reads every millimetre of drift. At an outside corner, tilers normally mitre the cap on site or run it back along the adjacent wall. A trim shaped to wrap that angle can be ordered specially in this colour, though we do not list it — telephone us and we will check quantities and timescales with the supplier. Any cut will reveal a pale biscuit line beneath the glaze.
  • Cleaning: The gloss glaze is non-porous and needs no sealing. Wipe with warm water and a mild detergent; avoid abrasive pads and acidic limescale removers, which will dull the surface over time.
