A Capping With Real Weight Above The Tiling

A 152 x 40mm moulded ceramic capping in a warm leaf green, built to sit on top of a half-height wall and give it a proper edge: the Artworks Palm Green Albert Moulding, from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.

The Albert is a substantial plain section — a broad rounded crown carried over a square step, with no repeat worked along it. Its job is structural to the eye rather than decorative. Forty millimetres of depth is enough to read as a genuine capping from across a room, so a run of field tiles stops on something solid instead of simply running out of tiles. This is the piece to reach for when the tiling is doing serious work in a room and needs a serious top edge.

Half-height tiling in a boot room, a back hall or a downstairs cloakroom is where it belongs, with field tile below and painted plaster above. Green tiling can drift towards the look of a Victorian institution when it is finished with white grout, chrome and a plain white floor; Palm Green starts well ahead of that, because the yellow in it reads as foliage rather than disinfectant, and a capping of this depth helps again by giving the wall a domestic, joinery-like finish. Unlacquered brass, warm mid-toned timber and a terracotta or patterned floor settle the argument.

In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

Can Artworks Palm Green tiles be used in a shower or wet room?

Yes. Artworks is specified for both wet and dry wall areas, so Palm Green is at home in a shower enclosure, a wet room or around a bath. The background must be sound, dry and properly tanked, with a flexible waterproof adhesive and grout throughout the wet zone. Wet, the glaze deepens and the leaf green goes richer and a shade darker, closer to a wet fern than to its dry colour — then dries back lighter again.

Can I use Artworks Palm Green on the floor?

No. Artworks is a wall tile range only. The glaze is not rated for foot traffic and would scratch and dull quickly underfoot, and a gloss surface of this kind is slippery when wet. A warm green wall sits particularly well above a terracotta or buff quarry floor, or a black and white geometric. Call 01344 620211 and we will suggest a floor to go under it.

Will every Palm Green tile be exactly the same shade?

There is slight variation between production batches, and green shows it more than most colours because the eye picks up a small shift towards yellow or towards grey very readily. Order the whole quantity for a room at once, including your wastage allowance, and mix tiles from several boxes as you set out rather than working box by box. If you need to add to existing tiling later, send us a photograph and we will tell you honestly how close a current batch is likely to be.

What adhesive and grout colour should I use with Palm Green?

Use a white flexible adhesive — a grey adhesive can shadow through the glaze and dull it. For grout, keep it warm and close in tone: a soft stone, a warm off-white or a pale green-grey. Two to avoid. A brilliant white draws a hard grid across the wall and is what tips any green towards looking institutional rather than domestic. And a cool or blue-grey grout fights the warmth in this particular green and leaves it looking gone-over and tired. Warm, quiet, and only a shade or two off the tile.

Is Palm Green in stock, and how quickly can it be delivered?

Palm Green is usually held in stock across the range, field and half tiles and the full set of mouldings alike. We will confirm availability and a delivery date for your exact quantity when you order, and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000. If a piece is temporarily out we will tell you the lead time before you commit rather than after. Call 01344 620211 or visit us at 67 High Street, Ascot.

How does Palm Green compare with the other Artworks colours, and with Jade Breeze?

Artworks offers two soft greens and they are not interchangeable. Palm Green is the warmer of the pair — a leaf green with yellow in it, botanical rather than mineral, and it stays warm under lamplight. Jade Breeze is the cooler one, a sage with a blue-green cast that reads crisper and more Deco. Warm woods, brass and terracotta belong with Palm Green; chrome and black suit Jade Breeze better. They are close enough on a screen to be genuinely hard to tell apart, so order a sample of each and look at them together in your own room before you decide.

Can I see a sample before I order?

Yes. Cut samples are free to collect from our Ascot showroom, or we can post one to you for the cost of postage. Seeing the glaze in your own light is the surest way to judge how it will sit against your paint, stone and metalwork.

How much extra should I order for cuts and wastage?

As a guide, add around 10% to your measured area for cuts and breakages, and nearer 15% for a herringbone, diagonal or brick-bond layout. It is also worth keeping a few spare tiles from the same batch in case a repair is ever needed.

Which pieces are available in Artworks Palm Green?

Fifteen pieces: the 152 x 152mm field tile, the 152 x 76mm half tile, a skirting tile, a plain cornice, an external corner trim, and ten mouldings — Victoria, Egg & Dart, Dentil, Hogarth, Albert, Rope, Astragal, Scroll, Sigma and Omega. Palm Green does not include a large brick tile, bevelled metro tiles, relief-moulded decorative tiles, handed corner pieces, an internal corner trim, wrapping pieces or rounded-edge tiles. Everything is sold by the box.

Are there corner pieces for the Palm Green Albert Moulding?

No. Palm Green does not include handed corner pieces for the Albert, so external angles are mitred on site from two lengths. The Albert is a small capping and mitres cleanly. Because the body beneath the glaze is pale, a cut edge reads as a fine light line rather than a dark seam, least noticeable when the mitre is turned away from the room. Order a couple of extra pieces to allow for the cuts.

Installation & Care Tips

Installation & care

  • Adhesive & Grout: Bed the capping on a white flexible adhesive, since a grey one will read through the gloss glaze as a shadow and take the depth out of the colour. Grout to a soft stone, a warm off-white or a pale green-grey. Two shades to leave alone: brilliant white, which turns the wall into a hard grid and drags a green scheme towards the clinical, and anything cool or blue-grey, which pulls against the yellow in this green and makes it look tired.
  • Layout: Fix the capping first and tile down to it, rather than tiling up and hoping the last course lands right — it is far easier to adjust a cut at skirting level than under the top edge. Check the line with a level along the full run, and mitre the ends where the moulding turns an external angle.
  • Cleaning: The gloss glaze is non-porous and needs no sealing. Wipe with warm water and a mild detergent; avoid abrasive pads and acidic limescale removers, which will dull the surface over time.
