Product story

The Working Height of a Dado

A stepped 152 x 40mm cap for the top of a half-height wall: the Artworks Baroque Blue Albert Moulding, from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.

Albert is a stepped profile — a flat upper face carried on a squared return, with a crisp shoulder between the two. That shoulder is the whole point of the piece. It gives the tiling below a definite line to finish on, and it gives the wall above a proper place to begin, so paint or paper starts against a clean ceramic edge instead of an unresolved one. The face is broad enough to catch light across it and read as a horizontal in its own right.

Dado height is chair-back height, which is to say the height at which a wall actually gets used: chairs pushed back against it, shoulders and baskets going past, a mop finding it every week. Glazed ceramic earns its place there. It takes the knocks that plaster will not, and the gloss face comes clean with a cloth and warm water rather than a repaint. In a warm, green-leaning blue the capping line reads soft rather than severe, and it sits comfortably under warm white above, with brass or copper fittings nearby.

Delivery

In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.

Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.

When your order arrives

Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.

Returns

To request a return, contact Hyperion within 14 days of delivery. For eligible online consumer cancellations, you have a further 14 days after telling us to send the goods back. Contact us for the correct return address; your statutory cancellation does not depend on our authorisation.

Additional supplier returns have their own eligibility rules, charges and exclusions. These do not override statutory cancellation rights or rights for faulty goods. See our refund policy and supplier return guidance before arranging a return.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

Can Baroque Blue tiles be used in a shower or wet room?

Yes. The glaze is impervious and unaffected by constant water, so these tiles are entirely at home in a shower enclosure, above a bath, behind a sink or across a wet-room wall. What matters is what sits behind and between them: a properly tanked substrate, a white flexible adhesive and a grout rated for wet areas. The tiles themselves never need sealing.

Can I use these on the floor?

No — Artworks is a wall range only. The ceramic body is not rated for foot traffic and the gloss glaze would scratch and lose its shine quickly underfoot. If you want a floor to sit beneath a Baroque Blue wall, a geometric or encaustic-effect floor tile is the natural partner, and our team can help you pair one.

Will the colour be consistent across my order?

The Artworks glazes are applied over a pressed ceramic body, and slight variation from tile to tile is part of the character rather than a fault — it is what keeps a large tiled wall from looking printed. Baroque Blue shows this more than most, because the green cast in it shifts a little with the light. Order the whole of a room in one go where you can, and mix tiles from several boxes as you set out rather than working box by box.

What adhesive and grout should I use with Baroque Blue?

Use a white flexible tile adhesive. For grout, the rule here follows from the colour: Baroque Blue is a warm blue, so choose a grout with warmth in it — a warm grey, a greige or a soft putty tone. Avoid a cool or blue-toned grey, which cancels the warmth and pulls the whole wall towards a colder, flatter blue than the tile actually is. Brilliant white is the other one to avoid: against a mid-toned glaze it draws a bright lattice across the wall and competes with the colour. Grout haze shows readily on a gloss glaze, so sponge each section as you go.

Is Baroque Blue in stock, and how quickly can I have it?

The range is usually held in stock and we can normally despatch within a few working days; mouldings and trims occasionally run on a longer lead time, so it is worth a call on 01344 620211 before you plan the fitting week. UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000, and we can hold a delivery back until your site is ready.

How does Baroque Blue compare with the other blues in the Artworks range?

Baroque Blue is the one that leans green. Original Style describe it as a slightly greener blue with a warm luminosity that sets it apart from the other blues in the range — which is why it sits so comfortably with gold, brass and copper, where a colder blue would fight them. The others are genuinely different colours: one is a versatile mid-blue, one a deep indigo, and one a blue-grey that shifts with the light. If you are choosing between them, order a cut sample of each and look at them in the actual room — blues are the hardest family in the range to judge from a screen.

Can I see a sample before I order?

Yes. Cut samples are free to collect from our Ascot showroom, or we can post one to you for the cost of postage. Seeing the glaze in your own light is the surest way to judge how it will sit against your paint, stone and metalwork.

How much extra should I order for cuts and wastage?

As a guide, add around 10% to your measured area for cuts and breakages, and nearer 15% for a herringbone, diagonal or brick-bond layout. It is also worth keeping a few spare tiles from the same batch in case a repair is ever needed.

Which pieces are available in Baroque Blue?

Fifteen: the 152mm field tile and its half tile, a skirting tile, a plain cornice, an external corner trim, and ten mouldings — Victoria, Egg & Dart, Dentil, Hogarth, Albert, Rope, Astragal, Scroll, Sigma and Omega. Baroque Blue is not made as a large brick or as a bevelled metro tile, so if a scheme needs one of those formats it will have to come from a different colour. Original Style also make rectangles, round-edge tiles, internal corners and corner mouldings to order in this colour — those carry minimum quantities and longer lead times, so call us on 01344 620211 if you need one.

How do I finish the top of a half-height tiled wall?

With a moulding laid horizontally along the top course. The choice is a matter of weight: the Victoria and Plain Cornice at 75mm give a substantial architectural capping, the Egg & Dart and Dentil carry relief ornament, the Albert, Hogarth and Rope sit in the middle, and the Astragal, Sigma, Scroll and Omega are slim beads for a quieter line. All are supplied four to a box covering 0.6 linear metres. Measure the run, add 10%, and round up to whole boxes.

Installation & Care Tips

Installation & care

  • Adhesive & Grout: White flexible adhesive underneath, and above all keep the grout warm — a soft putty or a warm mid-grey settles into the colour. Cool blue-leaning greys work against the warmth in the glaze and flatten it; stark white makes the joints the first thing the eye finds. Buff haze off promptly, because gloss records it.
  • Layout: Fix the Albert to a struck level first and tile downwards from it, so that any cut course falls at the skirting rather than immediately under the cap. Where the tiling below turns an outside corner, the matching external corner trim carries that edge round instead of leaving a cut showing.
  • Cleaning: No sealing is needed — the gloss glaze is non-porous. Warm water and a mild detergent are all it asks; keep abrasive pads and acidic limescale removers away, as both dull the surface over time.
