Frequently Asked Questions

What is the main use for an Albert moulding?

The Albert moulding is primarily used as a dado rail or capping piece. It is installed at the top of a tiled section (usually at chest or waist height) to finish the edge professionally and provide a decorative transition to the painted or papered wall above.

Does the Albert moulding come with corner pieces?

Yes, external "oyster" corners are typically available in the same glazes. These are essential for ensuring a neat, rounded finish when the moulding has to travel around an external corner or into a window reveal.

Can I use these mouldings in a shower area?

Yes. Like the rest of the Artworks range, the Albert moulding is made from glazed ceramic and is suitable for wet areas. Ensure it is correctly grouted to prevent water from sitting behind the relief profile.

How many mouldings do I need for my room?

Because these are border tiles, you should measure the linear length of the area you wish to cap. Each tile is 152mm long, so you will need approximately 6.6 tiles per linear metre. We recommend ordering a few extra for mitring and cuts.

Is the glaze the same as the Artworks field tiles?

Absolutely. The Albert moulding is produced using the same translucent heritage glazes as the field tiles and subway tiles, ensuring a perfect colour match across your entire installation.

Why Choose Original Style Artworks Albert Moulding?

The Original Style Artworks Albert moulding is an essential component for any authentic period restoration. Specifically designed to act as a dado rail or "capping" tile, it provides a decorative transition between your tiled surface and the wall above, creating the structured look found in traditional grand villas.

  • Thickness: Varies (relief profile)
  • Material: Glazed Ceramic

  • Suitability: Indoor Walls Only
  • Quantity: 6.58 linear metres per m² (if used as a field tile replacement)

The Perfect Finishing Touch
At 152mm long, the Albert moulding is perfectly sized to sit atop our Artworks Field Tiles and Artworks Half Tiles. While it is a staple for half-height Bathroom Wall Tiles, it is also frequently used to frame a decorative Kitchen Splashback. The relief detail of the Albert adds a tactile, 3D quality that flat tiles cannot achieve alone.

British Heritage & Coordination
Available in the full spectrum of Artworks colours—from the deep Royal Blue to the soft Vintage White—these mouldings are designed to coordinate perfectly with our Victorian Floor Tiles. If you are looking for a more rustic, hand-finished border alternative, you might also enjoy the Winchester Tiles collection.
