Frequently Asked Questions

What is the standard size of Artworks field tiles?

The most common sizes in the Artworks range are 152 x 152mm (6 x 6 inches) and 152 x 76mm (6 x 3 inches). Both sizes are 10mm thick, providing a substantial and premium feel once installed.

Can I use Artworks tiles in a shower?

Yes. Artworks glazed ceramic field tiles are suitable for wet areas, including shower walls. However, if you choose a "crackle-glaze" finish from within the collection, these must be treated with a sealer before grouting to prevent moisture or grout from penetrating the crackle effect.

Do I need to seal these tiles?

Standard high-gloss field tiles in the Artworks collection do not require sealing. However, any crackle-glaze variants or unglazed decorative pieces must be sealed with a high-quality impregnating sealer to maintain their appearance and prevent staining.

How many tiles are required per square meter?

For the 152 x 152mm square format, you will need approximately 44 tiles per m². For the 152 x 76mm subway format, you will need approximately 87 tiles per m². We recommend an additional 10% for cuts and wastage.

What grout colour is best for a traditional look?

For an authentic Victorian or Edwardian finish, we recommend a light grey or "off-white" grout rather than a stark bright white. This mimics the traditional lime-based mortars used in the 19th and early 20th centuries and helps the rich glaze of the tile stand out.

Why Choose Original Style Artworks Field Tiles?

The Original Style Artworks collection is the gold standard for period property restoration. Unlike standard modern tiles, the field tiles in this range are designed with a specific depth of glaze that creates a unique, reflective quality, bringing a sense of history and "soul" to your interior walls.

The Art of Colour and Heritage
The Artworks range is famous for its rich, traditional colour palette. Whether you are using the classic 152x152mm squares or the 152x76mm subway-style tiles, the high-gloss finish highlights the subtle variations in the glaze. These tiles are a popular choice for Kitchen Splashbacks and half-height Bathroom Wall Tiles, where they can be finished with a decorative dado rail or listello border.

Authentic Victorian & Edwardian Style
To achieve an authentic period look, these field tiles are often paired with Victorian Floor Tiles. The combination of a geometric porcelain floor and a high-gloss Artworks wall creates a cohesive, historical aesthetic. For a slightly more rustic but equally high-quality alternative, you may also enjoy the hand-finished feel of the Winchester Tiles range.

Technical Precision and British Craftsmanship
Every Artworks tile is manufactured with precision in Exeter, Devon. The ceramic body is fired at specific temperatures to ensure a stable, durable tile that is resistant to household stains and water. These tiles are fully compatible with standard adhesive systems and are easy to cut for intricate corner work.
