Splitting the Field Tile in Half

Stack two of these and you have a 152mm square: each piece is 152 x 76mm of gloss-glazed ceramic, its blue warm and green-leaning — the Artworks Baroque Blue Half Tile, from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.

Exactly half a field tile, and that is the point of it: the format drops into the same grid without any recalculation, while doubling the number of joints and halving the size of the unit. One tile covers 0.011552m², which puts about 87 of them on a square metre of wall. The box figures stand on their own: 44 tiles to a box, 0.511m² of coverage as supplied, and marginally under two boxes for each square metre.

Reach for it where a full square would swamp the surface: the return wall of a small cloakroom, a narrow splashback between worktop and cupboards, a band of two or three courses run at dado height. Laid in a running bond the smaller unit gives a wall a finer texture; stacked, it reads as a tight vertical grid. Warmth and a green cast are what keep all that jointing from turning clinical: the colour still carries the wall, and brass or copper fittings alongside look chosen rather than accidental. Where the wall turns outwards, the matching external corner trim takes the return and spares you a cut face altogether.

Delivery

In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.

Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.

When your order arrives

Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.

Additional supplier returns have their own eligibility rules, charges and exclusions. These do not override statutory cancellation rights or rights for faulty goods. See our refund policy and supplier return guidance before arranging a return.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

Can Baroque Blue tiles be used in a shower or wet room?

Yes. The glaze is impervious and unaffected by constant water, so these tiles are entirely at home in a shower enclosure, above a bath, behind a sink or across a wet-room wall. What matters is what sits behind and between them: a properly tanked substrate, a white flexible adhesive and a grout rated for wet areas. The tiles themselves never need sealing.

Can I use these on the floor?

No — Artworks is a wall range only. The ceramic body is not rated for foot traffic and the gloss glaze would scratch and lose its shine quickly underfoot. If you want a floor to sit beneath a Baroque Blue wall, a geometric or encaustic-effect floor tile is the natural partner, and our team can help you pair one.

Will the colour be consistent across my order?

The Artworks glazes are applied over a pressed ceramic body, and slight variation from tile to tile is part of the character rather than a fault — it is what keeps a large tiled wall from looking printed. Baroque Blue shows this more than most, because the green cast in it shifts a little with the light. Order the whole of a room in one go where you can, and mix tiles from several boxes as you set out rather than working box by box.

What adhesive and grout should I use with Baroque Blue?

Use a white flexible tile adhesive. For grout, the rule here follows from the colour: Baroque Blue is a warm blue, so choose a grout with warmth in it — a warm grey, a greige or a soft putty tone. Avoid a cool or blue-toned grey, which cancels the warmth and pulls the whole wall towards a colder, flatter blue than the tile actually is. Brilliant white is the other one to avoid: against a mid-toned glaze it draws a bright lattice across the wall and competes with the colour. Grout haze shows readily on a gloss glaze, so sponge each section as you go.

Is Baroque Blue in stock, and how quickly can I have it?

The range is usually held in stock and we can normally despatch within a few working days; mouldings and trims occasionally run on a longer lead time, so it is worth a call on 01344 620211 before you plan the fitting week. UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000, and we can hold a delivery back until your site is ready.

How does Baroque Blue compare with the other blues in the Artworks range?

Baroque Blue is the one that leans green. Original Style describe it as a slightly greener blue with a warm luminosity that sets it apart from the other blues in the range — which is why it sits so comfortably with gold, brass and copper, where a colder blue would fight them. The others are genuinely different colours: one is a versatile mid-blue, one a deep indigo, and one a blue-grey that shifts with the light. If you are choosing between them, order a cut sample of each and look at them in the actual room — blues are the hardest family in the range to judge from a screen.

Can I see a sample before I order?

Yes. Cut samples are free to collect from our Ascot showroom, or we can post one to you for the cost of postage. Seeing the glaze in your own light is the surest way to judge how it will sit against your paint, stone and metalwork.

How much extra should I order for cuts and wastage?

As a guide, add around 10% to your measured area for cuts and breakages, and nearer 15% for a herringbone, diagonal or brick-bond layout. It is also worth keeping a few spare tiles from the same batch in case a repair is ever needed.

Which pieces are available in Baroque Blue?

Fifteen: the 152mm field tile and its half tile, a skirting tile, a plain cornice, an external corner trim, and ten mouldings — Victoria, Egg & Dart, Dentil, Hogarth, Albert, Rope, Astragal, Scroll, Sigma and Omega. Baroque Blue is not made as a large brick or as a bevelled metro tile, so if a scheme needs one of those formats it will have to come from a different colour. Original Style also make rectangles, round-edge tiles, internal corners and corner mouldings to order in this colour — those carry minimum quantities and longer lead times, so call us on 01344 620211 if you need one.

What is the half tile for?

It is a 152 x 76mm brick — the field tile halved along its length. Laid on its own in a running bond it gives a finer, busier wall than the square tile. Used a course or two at a time it becomes a border, a banding or a stall riser, or the shallow filler above a bath where a full tile would have to be cut down. A 152 x 76mm tile covers 0.011552m², so a square metre takes about 87; boxes hold 44 and cover 0.511m² as supplied.

Will a blue work in a north-facing room?

This is the blue most likely to. North light is cool and unforgiving, and it drains a cold blue until it reads grey and rather bleak. Baroque Blue has warmth and a green cast in it, which is exactly what survives that light — it holds its colour where a cleaner, colder blue gives up. It is worth seeing a sample on the actual wall at the time of day you use the room most, and worth keeping the grout warm rather than grey for the same reason.

Installation & Care Tips

Installation & care

  • Adhesive & Grout: White flexible adhesive throughout. The grout wants warmth — greige, putty or a warm mid-grey. Anything cool or blue-toned in the joint works against the glaze, flattening it and taking it several degrees colder; brilliant white is no safer, because at this many joints to the square metre the jointing starts to dominate and the blue slips into the background. Gloss surfaces hold haze, so wipe as you go rather than leaving it all to the end.
  • Layout: Decide the bond before you order — a running bond, a stack and a herringbone each consume a different amount at the perimeter. Keep cuts at the least conspicuous end of each run, and remember that a sawn face shows the pale body underneath; the matching external corner trim removes that problem wherever the wall turns.
  • Cleaning: The gloss glaze is non-porous and needs no sealing. Wipe with warm water and a mild detergent; avoid abrasive pads and acidic limescale removers, which will dull the surface over time.
