Each box contains 44 tiles and covers 0.51m², at 86 tiles per square metre. Work out your wall area in square metres, add about 10% for cutting, then divide by 0.51 to give the number of boxes.

It is the classic 152 x 76mm brick format that metro tiling is built on, but with a straight rather than bevelled edge, which gives a flatter and more understated wall. Palladian Beige is not produced as a bevelled metro tile; if the shadow line of a bevel is what you are after, the Artworks Metro Bevelled tile is made in Brilliant White and County White.

It is a step warmer and deeper than any of them. Brilliant White is a clean, almost optical white; Ivory a cool cream; County White the classic warm Victorian cream; Vintage White the most obviously aged. Palladian Beige leaves the white family altogether — a soft, warm stone tone that reads as weathered Bath stone or limewashed plaster rather than as an off-white. It flatters oak, brass, terracotta and deep greens, and gives a room more visual warmth than a white ever will. Order samples if you are choosing between it and a cream.

Palladian Beige is a fifteen-piece range: the 152 x 152mm field tile and 152 x 76mm half tile, a skirting tile, a plain cornice, an external corner trim, and the Victoria, Albert, Hogarth, Dentil, Egg & Dart, Rope, Scroll, Astragal, Sigma and Omega mouldings. The metro bevelled, large brick, rectangle, rounded-edge and wrapping pieces offered in some other Artworks colours are not made in Palladian Beige. Yes. Artworks is specified for both wet and dry wall areas, so it is at home in a shower enclosure, a wet room or around a bath. The background must be sound, dry and properly tanked, and a flexible waterproof adhesive and grout should be used throughout the wet zone.

Every Artworks piece is finished in the same Palladian Beige glaze, so field tiles, half tiles, mouldings and the skirting are designed to be used together. As with any glazed ceramic there can be slight variation between production batches, and a warm tone shows that variation a little more readily than a white, so we recommend ordering everything for a scheme at the same time.

As a guide, add around 10% to your measured area for cuts and breakages, and nearer 15% for a herringbone, diagonal or brick-bond layout. It is also worth keeping a few spare tiles from the same batch in case a repair is ever needed.
