Product story

Half the Width, a Different Rhythm

A 152 x 76mm gloss ceramic half tile in a warm, yellow-leaning leaf green: the Artworks Palm Green Half Tile, from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.

Exactly half the field square, in the same 7mm glazed ceramic body and the same glaze. Halving the width doubles the count — about 87 tiles to the square metre against roughly 43 — and a box of 44 covers the same 0.511m². What changes is the grain of the wall: twice as many joints, a finer and busier grid, and a surface that reads as worked rather than plain. Laid in a two-to-one bond, stacked vertically or run as a basketweave, it gives a wall a pattern before any ornament is added.

The narrower module earns its keep in awkward places: a window reveal, the return of a chimney breast, a slim run of wall between a door and a corner, or the panel behind a range where a busier surface suits the working end of a kitchen. Because the joints break the colour up more often, a strong leaf green stops massing and the wall stays lively rather than heavy. It handles lamplight well, too — the yellow already in the glaze is what a warm bulb picks up, so evening light deepens the green instead of flattening it, and morning daylight lifts the same tiles to something distinctly leafier.

Delivery

In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.

Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.

When your order arrives

Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

Can Artworks Palm Green tiles be used in a shower or wet room?

Yes. Artworks is specified for both wet and dry wall areas, so Palm Green is at home in a shower enclosure, a wet room or around a bath. The background must be sound, dry and properly tanked, with a flexible waterproof adhesive and grout throughout the wet zone. Wet, the glaze deepens and the leaf green goes richer and a shade darker, closer to a wet fern than to its dry colour — then dries back lighter again.

Can I use Artworks Palm Green on the floor?

No. Artworks is a wall tile range only. The glaze is not rated for foot traffic and would scratch and dull quickly underfoot, and a gloss surface of this kind is slippery when wet. A warm green wall sits particularly well above a terracotta or buff quarry floor, or a black and white geometric. Call 01344 620211 and we will suggest a floor to go under it.

Will every Palm Green tile be exactly the same shade?

There is slight variation between production batches, and green shows it more than most colours because the eye picks up a small shift towards yellow or towards grey very readily. Order the whole quantity for a room at once, including your wastage allowance, and mix tiles from several boxes as you set out rather than working box by box. If you need to add to existing tiling later, send us a photograph and we will tell you honestly how close a current batch is likely to be.

What adhesive and grout colour should I use with Palm Green?

Use a white flexible adhesive — a grey adhesive can shadow through the glaze and dull it. For grout, keep it warm and close in tone: a soft stone, a warm off-white or a pale green-grey. Two to avoid. A brilliant white draws a hard grid across the wall and is what tips any green towards looking institutional rather than domestic. And a cool or blue-grey grout fights the warmth in this particular green and leaves it looking gone-over and tired. Warm, quiet, and only a shade or two off the tile.

Is Palm Green in stock, and how quickly can it be delivered?

Palm Green is usually held in stock across the range, field and half tiles and the full set of mouldings alike. We will confirm availability and a delivery date for your exact quantity when you order, and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000. If a piece is temporarily out we will tell you the lead time before you commit rather than after. Call 01344 620211 or visit us at 67 High Street, Ascot.

How does Palm Green compare with the other Artworks colours, and with Jade Breeze?

Artworks offers two soft greens and they are not interchangeable. Palm Green is the warmer of the pair — a leaf green with yellow in it, botanical rather than mineral, and it stays warm under lamplight. Jade Breeze is the cooler one, a sage with a blue-green cast that reads crisper and more Deco. Warm woods, brass and terracotta belong with Palm Green; chrome and black suit Jade Breeze better. They are close enough on a screen to be genuinely hard to tell apart, so order a sample of each and look at them together in your own room before you decide.

Can I see a sample before I order?

Yes. Cut samples are free to collect from our Ascot showroom, or we can post one to you for the cost of postage. Seeing the glaze in your own light is the surest way to judge how it will sit against your paint, stone and metalwork.

How much extra should I order for cuts and wastage?

As a guide, add around 10% to your measured area for cuts and breakages, and nearer 15% for a herringbone, diagonal or brick-bond layout. It is also worth keeping a few spare tiles from the same batch in case a repair is ever needed.

Which pieces are available in Artworks Palm Green?

Fifteen pieces: the 152 x 152mm field tile, the 152 x 76mm half tile, a skirting tile, a plain cornice, an external corner trim, and ten mouldings — Victoria, Egg & Dart, Dentil, Hogarth, Albert, Rope, Astragal, Scroll, Sigma and Omega. Palm Green does not include a large brick tile, bevelled metro tiles, relief-moulded decorative tiles, handed corner pieces, an internal corner trim, wrapping pieces or rounded-edge tiles. Everything is sold by the box.

How many Palm Green half tiles are in a box?

A box holds 44 half tiles at 152 x 76mm and covers 0.511 square metres, weighing 6.16kg — the same coverage as a box of field tiles, in twice as many pieces, or roughly 87 tiles to the square metre. Two courses of half tile occupy exactly the height of one course of field tile, so the two run together in a single scheme without any awkward setting out.

How does Palm Green look under artificial light?

Better than most greens, because the yellow already in it is what warm bulbs bring forward. Under tungsten or a low colour-temperature LED it deepens and warms rather than going flat or grey, which is the way a cooler green tends to fail. In daylight it lifts and reads fresher and leafier. It is still worth holding a sample under the actual bulbs you intend to use as well as at the window — green shifts more than any other colour, and a bathroom is mostly seen after dark.

Installation & Care Tips

Installation & care

  • Adhesive & Grout: Use a white flexible adhesive; a grey one tends to shadow through and take the life out of the glaze. For grout, a soft stone, a warm off-white or a pale green-grey is right. Two to avoid: brilliant white, which draws a hard grid across the wall and sends the green towards the institutional, and anything cool or blue-grey, which works against the warmth in this glaze and leaves the finished wall looking flat and gone-over. With twice the joints of a field layout, the grout choice matters here more than anywhere.
  • Layout: Decide the bond before ordering, as a basketweave or a vertical stack wants tighter setting-out than a simple half-lap. Dry-lay a metre or so on the floor first to check the offset. Cut edges show a pale line where the biscuit is exposed, so plan them into the least conspicuous end of each course.
  • Cleaning: The gloss glaze is non-porous and needs no sealing. Wipe with warm water and a mild detergent; avoid abrasive pads and acidic limescale removers, which will dull the surface over time.
