A creamy white 152 x 76mm gloss ceramic brick — the straight-edged forerunner of the metro tile — the Artworks County White Half Tile, from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.

Half the square, twice the rhythm. Laid in a running bond, the 152 x 76mm brick gives a wall movement and scale that a square cannot, which is why it has been the default for Victorian kitchens, sculleries and bathrooms for well over a century. In County White the effect is soft rather than clinical.

The edge is straight rather than bevelled, so the wall reads as a flat, quiet plane with fine shadow lines only at the joints. Stack bond it for a contemporary grid, run it in a herringbone for something more decorative, or take it vertically to lift a low ceiling.

⚠ Installation & Care Tips

Adhesive & Grout: Fix with a white flexible tile adhesive — a grey adhesive can shadow through the glaze — and grout in a soft off-white or warm putty tone, which sits more comfortably with County White's creaminess than a stark brilliant white.
Layout: Allow a 2-3mm joint and set out from the centre of the wall so cuts fall evenly at each end. Order around 10% extra for cuts and breakages.
Cleaning: The gloss glaze is non-porous and needs no sealing. Wipe with warm water and a mild detergent; avoid abrasive pads and acidic limescale removers, which will dull the surface over time.

How many boxes of County White Half Tiles will I need?

Each box contains 44 tiles and covers 0.50m², at 86 tiles per square metre. Work out your wall area in square metres, add about 10% for cutting, then divide by 0.50 to give the number of boxes.

Is the Half Tile the same as a metro tile?

It is the classic 152 x 76mm brick format that metro tiling is built on, but with a straight rather than bevelled edge. That gives a flatter, more understated wall. If you would prefer the shadow line of a bevel, our County White Metro Bevelled tile offers the same glaze in a bevelled body.

How does County White compare with Brilliant White and Vintage White?

County White sits between the two. Brilliant White is a clean, cool, almost optical white; Vintage White is the warmest and most obviously aged. County White is the classic soft, creamy Victorian white — warm enough to flatter Victorian Green, Burgundy and natural oak, but not so mellow that it reads as old. If you are torn, order a sample of all three; they look markedly different on a wall.

Can Artworks Brilliant White tiles be used in a shower or wet room?

Yes. Artworks is specified for both wet and dry wall areas, so it is at home in a shower enclosure, a wet room or around a bath. The background must be sound, dry and properly tanked, and a flexible waterproof adhesive and grout should be used throughout the wet zone.

Will County White match across the different Artworks shapes and mouldings?

Every Artworks piece is finished in the same County White glaze, so field tiles, half tiles, mouldings, skirtings and wrapping pieces are designed to be used together. As with any glazed ceramic there can be slight variation between production batches, so we recommend ordering everything for a scheme at the same time.

How much extra should I order for cuts and wastage?

As a guide, add around 10% to your measured area for cuts and breakages, and nearer 15% for a herringbone, diagonal or brick-bond layout. It is also worth keeping a few spare tiles from the same batch in case a repair is ever needed.
