Light brown hardwood floor in a herringbone pattern from the woodpecker orkney herringbone collection

Orkney is an engineered oak herringbone floor from Woodpecker, made as 90 x 400mm blocks, 15mm thick, with a 4mm oak wear layer over a plywood core. The grade is extra rustic and the surface is hand-scraped with visible saw marks, so the floor has a worked, textured character. Blocks have tongue and groove joints and bevels on all four edges, which picks out each block within the herringbone pattern.

Woodpecker Orkney Engineered Oak Herringbone Flooring

The six colours are Marbled, Fauna, Passage, Pewter, Smoked and Truffle. Smoked is finished with Woodpecker Easioil and the other five are UV oiled. Orkney can be floated, glued or nailed, and it is suitable over underfloor heating when glued down. Each pack holds 36 blocks and covers 1.296m², and the tog rating is 1.13. Orkney is engineered oak supplied as herringbone blocks, 15mm thick with a 4mm real oak wear layer and tongue-and-groove joints over a stable core. It can be sanded and refinished over its life and is backed by a 100-year domestic warranty.

What finishes are in the Orkney collection?

Choose from Marbled, Fauna, Passage, Pewter, Smoked and Truffle. Smoked has a Woodpecker Easioil finish; the other five colours are UV oiled. Each 90 x 400mm block creates a classic herringbone pattern.

Can Orkney herringbone be used with underfloor heating?

Yes. Orkney is compatible with underfloor heating when glued down, thanks to its engineered construction. Allow the blocks to acclimatise in the room first and keep the surface temperature within Woodpecker's recommended limits.

How is Orkney herringbone flooring installed?

Orkney blocks are laid in a herringbone pattern using their tongue-and-groove joints, and can be floated, secret-nailed or fully glued down. Glue-down is recommended over underfloor heating for the best heat transfer and stability.
