The Original Brick Format: Artworks Palladian Beige Half Tile 152 x 76mm

A warm stone-beige 152 x 76mm gloss ceramic brick — the straight-edged forerunner of the metro tile — the Artworks Palladian Beige Half Tile, from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.

Half the square, twice the rhythm. Laid in a running bond, the 152 x 76mm brick gives a wall movement and scale that a square cannot, which is why it has been the default for Victorian kitchens, sculleries and bathrooms for well over a century.

In a warm stone beige the effect is softer and more architectural than the same format in white — closer to a run of dressed stone than to a tiled wall. The edge is straight rather than bevelled, so the surface reads as a flat, quiet plane with fine shadow lines only at the joints.

Installation & care

Adhesive & Grout: Fix with a white flexible tile adhesive and grout in a warm sand or putty tone. A brilliant white grout will cut across a beige wall as a bright grid and undo the warmth of the glaze.
Layout: Allow a 2-3mm joint and set out from the centre of the wall so cuts fall evenly at each end. Order around 10% extra for cuts and breakages.
Cleaning: The gloss glaze is non-porous and needs no sealing. Wipe with warm water and a mild detergent; avoid abrasive pads and acidic limescale removers, which will dull the surface over time.

Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.

When your order arrives

Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.

Returns

Unused, complete orders can be returned within 14 days of delivery; as tiles are picked and packed to your quantity, a restocking fee of 20–30% applies depending on the range. Special-order items are non-returnable unless damaged on delivery or faulty. Ordering a free sample first is the simplest way to avoid a return.

How many boxes of Palladian Beige Half Tiles will I need?

Each box contains 44 tiles and covers 0.51m², at 86 tiles per square metre. Work out your wall area in square metres, add about 10% for cutting, then divide by 0.51 to give the number of boxes.

Is the Half Tile the same as a metro tile?

It is the classic 152 x 76mm brick format that metro tiling is built on, but with a straight rather than bevelled edge, which gives a flatter and more understated wall. Palladian Beige is not produced as a bevelled metro tile; if the shadow line of a bevel is what you are after, the Artworks Metro Bevelled tile is made in Brilliant White and County White.

How does Palladian Beige compare with the Artworks whites?

It is a step warmer and deeper than any of them. Brilliant White is a clean, almost optical white; Ivory a cool cream; County White the classic warm Victorian cream; Vintage White the most obviously aged. Palladian Beige leaves the white family altogether — a soft, warm stone tone that reads as weathered Bath stone or limewashed plaster rather than as an off-white. It flatters oak, brass, terracotta and deep greens, and gives a room more visual warmth than a white ever will. Order samples if you are choosing between it and a cream.

Which Artworks pieces are available in Palladian Beige?

Palladian Beige is a fifteen-piece range: the 152 x 152mm field tile and 152 x 76mm half tile, a skirting tile, a plain cornice, an external corner trim, and the Victoria, Albert, Hogarth, Dentil, Egg & Dart, Rope, Scroll, Astragal, Sigma and Omega mouldings. The metro bevelled, large brick, rectangle, rounded-edge and wrapping pieces offered in some other Artworks colours are not made in Palladian Beige. If your scheme needs one of those, call us and we will help you work round it.

Can Artworks Brilliant White tiles be used in a shower or wet room?

Yes. Artworks is specified for both wet and dry wall areas, so it is at home in a shower enclosure, a wet room or around a bath. The background must be sound, dry and properly tanked, and a flexible waterproof adhesive and grout should be used throughout the wet zone.

Will Palladian Beige match across the different Artworks shapes and mouldings?

Every Artworks piece is finished in the same Palladian Beige glaze, so field tiles, half tiles, mouldings and the skirting are designed to be used together. As with any glazed ceramic there can be slight variation between production batches, and a warm tone shows that variation a little more readily than a white, so we recommend ordering everything for a scheme at the same time.

How much extra should I order for cuts and wastage?

As a guide, add around 10% to your measured area for cuts and breakages, and nearer 15% for a herringbone, diagonal or brick-bond layout. It is also worth keeping a few spare tiles from the same batch in case a repair is ever needed.
