Kitchen Splashback

Kitchen Splashback Collection

The splashback is the hardest-working wall in the kitchen — catching heat, steam and daily wipe-downs behind the hob and sink — and it is also the room's best opportunity for character. Our kitchen splashback tiles (sometimes called a kitchen backsplash) combine wipe-clean practicality with genuinely beautiful design, drawing on brands including Ca'Pietra, Fired Earth and Original Style.

Popular Splashback Styles

Metro and brick tiles remain the timeless choice, laid in brickbond for classic character or stacked for a modern grid. Handmade-look zellige brings rippling, light-catching texture; mosaic sheets add fine detail behind a hob; patterned tiles turn the splashback into a focal point; and marble or marble-effect porcelain delivers quiet luxury that suits both period and contemporary kitchens.

Practical Considerations

Glazed ceramic and porcelain shrug off the heat behind a hob and wipe completely clean, making them ideal splashback materials. Gloss finishes reflect light and clean most easily, and a stain-proof epoxy grout keeps the joints looking as fresh as the tiles in this most-splashed of zones.

Getting the Look Right

Run the splashback to worktop height for a subtle finish, or take it to the ceiling behind open shelving for real drama. Order free cut samples to test colours against your worktop and cabinetry in your own light, or visit our Ascot showroom for advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can splashback tiles be used in bathrooms and kitchen walls?

Yes, splashback wall tiles are designed for use in both kitchens and bathrooms, offering a stylish and highly practical solution wherever there is risk of moisture, stains or heat.

  • In kitchens: Splashback tiles are typically installed behind hobs, sinks and worktops to protect the wall from cooking splashes, water stains and grease.
  • In bathrooms: They are ideal for use behind basins and vanities, providing a barrier against water splashes and creating a clean, easy-to-maintain surface.
Can I use splashback wall tiles in other areas of the home?

Yes, any space where water, steam, oils or cleaning products are regularly used will benefit from the protection that tiles provide.

While they are most often used in kitchens and bathrooms, they can also be used in:

  • Utility rooms
  • Cloakrooms
  • Laundry areas
  • Outdoor kitchens
  • Garden rooms.

Splashbacks can also be used purely as a design feature. For example, tiling a section of wall above a shelf, behind a mirror, or within a recessed niche can add a professional finish to your décor.

What are the best heat-resistant tile materials for a splashback area?

The best materials for splashback wall tiles are those that are resistant to moisture, heat and stains while offering durability and ease of maintenance.

  1. Ceramic and porcelain tiles are among the most popular choices because they are non-porous, easy to clean and available in a vast range of colours, styles and textures.
  2. Glass tiles are another excellent splashback material offering a smooth, high-gloss finish. They are also stain-resistant and come in vibrant colours and sleek designs.
  3. For a more rustic or textured look, natural stone tiles like marble or slate can also be used, though these usually require sealing and more regular maintenance.

We stock splashback tiles in all of these materials at Hyperion Tiles, ensuring you have a wide selection of both practical and beautiful options.

What size tiles work best for splashback areas?

Splashback areas are incredibly flexible when it comes to tile size, and the best size often depends on the look you want to achieve and the space itself.

  • Smaller 10x20cm formats, such as classic metro tiles) remain a timeless choice. These tiles suit both traditional and contemporary kitchens and can easily be fitted into compact spaces, like the area between worktops and wall units.
  • If you’re aiming for a more seamless or modern aesthetic, large-format tiles are a brilliant option as they reduce grout lines and offer a sleek, clean look. These are especially effective in minimalist kitchens or modern bathrooms, where simplicity and easy maintenance are priorities.
  • Mosaic tiles, which consist of tiny tiles on a mesh backing, are also a popular choice for splashbacks due to their ability to follow curved or irregular shapes and add texture and detail to small areas.

At Hyperion Tiles, we offer a wide range of sizes and formats, so whether you want a bold patterned feature or a subtle backdrop, you’ll find a tile that suits your space.
