Product story
A Quiet Finish at the Top of the Tiling
The Jet Black Plain Cornice is a moulded 152 x 75mm ceramic section from the Artworks range, boxes of four, delivered from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.
Run along the head of a half-height field or the top of a full-height wall, it closes the tiling with a moulded edge instead of a cut one. Six point six pieces make a metre, so a 2.4-metre wall calls for 16 pieces, which is four boxes exactly. Longer walls are simply more of the same arithmetic.
Its profile is a simple sweep, and on a mirror-black glaze a simple sweep is enough: the curve carries a single travelling highlight that brightens and dims as the light in the room changes or as you move through it. That is how a moulding works in this colourway — not by the glaze varying across the profile, but by the reflection sliding along it. It suits a scheme where the drawing is done at the top of the wall and the field below is left plain.

Installation & care
Installation & care
- Adhesive & Grout: A cornice sits at the top of the work and wants a firm bed, so use a flexible adhesive and prop the run while it goes off. Grout to match the glaze and the cornice reads as one moulded band; grout it white and the pieces count themselves along the wall. Mid grey does neither job well. Take the sponge to it while the grout is soft, since haze settles into the profile.
- Layout: Set the cornice out from the corners inwards, so the cut lands in the middle of a run rather than at a return. A dry run along the floor first will show you where the joints fall.
- Cleaning: There is nothing to seal; the gloss glaze is non-porous. Warm water and a mild detergent will do it. Abrasive pads and acidic limescale removers should be avoided, as both will flatten the shine over the years.
Samples
Tone, glaze and veining can read differently in your own light. Cut samples are free; sample postage is £4.99 (£8 for Original Style) and is refunded on tile orders over £50 using the code emailed with your sample order. Use the sample option in the buying panel, or call our Ascot team on 01344 620211 for help comparing colour, finish and quantities.
Delivery
In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.
Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.
When your order arrives
Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.
Returns
Unused, complete orders can be returned within 14 days of delivery; as tiles are picked and packed to your quantity, a restocking fee of 20–30% applies depending on the range. Special-order items are non-returnable unless damaged on delivery or faulty. Ordering a free sample first is the simplest way to avoid a return.
