A Proper Ceiling Line: Artworks County White Plain Cornice

A moulded 152 x 75mm ceramic cornice in a soft, creamy white, made to close the top of a tiled wall — the Artworks County White Plain Cornice, from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.

The cornice is the piece that turns tiling into joinery. Its plain, gently swept profile carries the eye from wall to ceiling and hides the junction entirely, so there is no cut edge and no need for a bead.

Unadorned by design, it suits schemes where the ornament belongs elsewhere — a run of Victoria moulding at dado height, perhaps, or a strongly coloured field below. Use it with the Artworks skirting for a wall that is properly finished top and bottom.

  • Order a Sample - Free cut samples are free to collect from our Ascot showroom, or posted to your door for the cost of postage.
  • Dedicated Delivery - We arrange safe, secure delivery for your project, with free UK delivery on orders over £1,000.

⚠ Installation & Care Tips

  • Adhesive & Grout: Fix with a white flexible tile adhesive — a grey adhesive can shadow through the glaze — and grout in a soft off-white or warm putty tone, which sits more comfortably with County White's creaminess than a stark brilliant white.
  • Layout: Set the cornice line out from the ceiling and work down, so any cut course falls at the bottom of the wall where it is least visible. Measure the run in linear metres and allow extra for corners.
  • Cleaning: The gloss glaze is non-porous and needs no sealing. Wipe with warm water and a mild detergent; avoid abrasive pads and acidic limescale removers, which will dull the surface over time.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

What is a cornice tile used for?

It sits at the top of a tiled wall, where the tiling meets the ceiling or the plaster above. The gently curved profile softens that transition and conceals the cut edge of the field tiles, finishing a scheme in much the same way a plaster cornice finishes a room.

How is the Plain Cornice sold?

By the box of 4 pieces, covering 0.6 linear metres at 6.6 pieces per linear metre. Measure the run along the top of your tiling, add around 10% for cuts and mitres, then divide by 0.6 to give the number of boxes.

Will County White match across the different Artworks shapes and mouldings?

Every Artworks piece is finished in the same County White glaze, so field tiles, half tiles, mouldings, skirtings and wrapping pieces are designed to be used together. As with any glazed ceramic there can be slight variation between production batches, so we recommend ordering everything for a scheme at the same time.

Can Artworks Brilliant White tiles be used in a shower or wet room?

Yes. Artworks is specified for both wet and dry wall areas, so it is at home in a shower enclosure, a wet room or around a bath. The background must be sound, dry and properly tanked, and a flexible waterproof adhesive and grout should be used throughout the wet zone.

Can I see a sample before I order?

Yes. Cut samples are free to collect from our Ascot showroom, or we can post one to you for the cost of postage. Seeing the glaze in your own light is the surest way to judge how it will sit against your paint, stone and metalwork.
