Product story
A Quiet Cap for the Top of the Tiling
A 152 x 75mm glazed ceramic cornice in deep claret red: the Artworks Burgundy Plain Cornice, from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.
Every run of wall tiling needs a top edge, and this is the plainest and most versatile way to give it one. The plain cornice is a 152 x 75mm shaped length with no ornament worked into it — no dentils, no rope, no egg and dart — just a clean moulded profile that steps the tiling out from the wall and closes the course above. Where the decorative mouldings announce themselves, this one simply finishes the job.
That restraint is exactly why it suits a claret scheme so well. A colour this strong rarely needs help drawing attention, and capping it with a plain profile lets the wall stay the subject. Run it at dado height above a half-tile band, or at full height where the tiling meets clotted-cream or forest-green paint above. The gloss glaze picks up whatever light the room has along the top of the profile, giving a soft horizontal line that reads as deliberate rather than decorative.

Installation & care
Installation & care
- Adhesive & Grout: White flexible adhesive, with grout in warm putty, mid grey or a soft stone tone kept a shade or two lighter than the tile. Avoid brilliant white — along a horizontal capping run it reads as a bright rule drawn right across the room, and on a red this deep that line is all anyone will see.
- Layout: Set the cornice line before you tile the field below it, then work the courses down, so any cut lands out of eye line at floor or worktop level. Measure the run in linear metres and order to the nearest whole box.
- Cleaning: The gloss glaze is non-porous and needs no sealing. Wipe with warm water and a mild detergent; avoid abrasive pads and acidic limescale removers, which will dull the surface over time.
Samples
Tone, glaze and veining can read differently in your own light. Cut samples are free; sample postage is £4.99 (£8 for Original Style) and is refunded on tile orders over £50 using the code emailed with your sample order. Use the sample option in the buying panel, or call our Ascot team on 01344 620211 for help comparing colour, finish and quantities.
Delivery
In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.
Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.
When your order arrives
Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.
Returns
Unused, complete orders can be returned within 14 days of delivery; as tiles are picked and packed to your quantity, a restocking fee of 20–30% applies depending on the range. Special-order items are non-returnable unless damaged on delivery or faulty. Ordering a free sample first is the simplest way to avoid a return.
