Ornament Where the Tiling Stops

Carrying a modelled relief profile across a 152 x 75mm face in deep green gloss, this is the Artworks Edwardian Green Victoria Moulding, from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.

The Victoria is a full-depth moulding — 75mm on the wall — and it spends that depth on ornament. Its profile steps in and out across the face, so a run of it reads as a decorated band rather than a simple cap. Where an undecorated cornice closes a dado without comment, this piece makes the closing line part of the scheme itself, which is why it suits a hall or a stair where there is nothing else at that height to hold the eye.

This is where the glaze earns its keep. Glaze gathers and pools in the hollows of a relief profile, and on this colour the pooling does the drawing for you: every recess deepens to a darker, richer green while the raised steps hold the highlight along their crowns. Each step then throws its own thin shadow onto the face beneath it, and it is those stacked lines of shade that carry the profile along the wall — depth you could measure with a fingernail, held in a deep and remarkably even green. Use it to finish half-height tiling with white above, and remember that mitres cut straight through the relief: an outside angle is either taken that way or the run is stopped just past the corner. We keep nothing that wraps such an angle, though the factory will model one specially to order.

In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Product Frequently Asked Questions

Can Edwardian Green tiles be used in a shower or wet room?

Yes — and this is the colour that was made for it. Original Style developed Edwardian Green specifically for wet areas: showers, wet rooms, bathrooms and the wall behind a kitchen sink. It is made with a copper-free glaze recipe, which stands up to constant water better than the copper-based greens do. You still need a properly tanked substrate, a white flexible adhesive and a grout rated for wet areas, but the glaze itself is impervious and needs no sealing.

Can I use these on the floor?

No — Artworks is a wall range only. The ceramic body is not rated for foot traffic and the gloss glaze would scratch and lose its shine quickly underfoot. For a floor to sit beneath an Edwardian Green wall, a Victorian-style geometric floor or an encaustic-effect tile is the historically correct partner, and our team can help you pair one.

Will the colour be consistent across my order?

The Artworks glazes are applied over a pressed ceramic body and slight variation from tile to tile is part of the character rather than a fault — it is what stops a large tiled wall looking printed. Variation between production batches can be a little greater, so order the whole of a room in one go where you can, and mix tiles from several boxes as you set out rather than working box by box.

What adhesive and grout should I use with Edwardian Green?

Use a white flexible tile adhesive, which keeps the glaze reading true. For grout, aim for the middle: a mid to deep grey, or a soft green-grey close to the tile's own tone. Brilliant white draws a hard bright grid over a colour this saturated and fights it. Charcoal or black goes the other way and weighs the green down until it reads as a far darker colour than it is — precisely the effect Edwardian tiling was moving away from. A grey a shade or two darker than the wall you want lets the green stay green.

Is Edwardian Green in stock, and how quickly can I have it?

The range is usually held in stock and we can normally despatch within a few working days; mouldings and trims occasionally run on a longer lead time, so it is worth a call on 01344 620211 before you plan the fitting week. UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000, and we can hold a delivery back until your site is ready.

How does Edwardian Green compare with the other greens in the Artworks range?

Edwardian Green is the wet-area sibling of Victorian Green. Original Style describe it as offering most of the grandeur of Victorian Green while using a copper-free glaze recipe, which makes it the more hardwearing of the two in a shower or wet room. The trade-off is slightly less of the depth and natural variation that copper-based glazes give, so it reads a shade more subdued and a little more even across a wall. The other three greens are different colours rather than different depths: Pavilion Green is a brighter, more saturated mid green, Palm Green leans warm and leafy, and Jade Breeze is the palest, with a cool blue-grey cast. Cut samples are the only reliable way to choose between them, and we are happy to send several.

Can I see a sample before I order?

Yes. Cut samples are free to collect from our Ascot showroom, or we can post one to you for the cost of postage. Seeing the glaze in your own light is the surest way to judge how it will sit against your paint, stone and metalwork.

How much extra should I order for cuts and wastage?

As a guide, add around 10% to your measured area for cuts and breakages, and nearer 15% for a herringbone, diagonal or brick-bond layout. It is also worth keeping a few spare tiles from the same batch in case a repair is ever needed.

Which pieces are available in Edwardian Green?

We stock seventeen: the 152mm field tile and its half tile, a 228 x 75mm large brick, bevelled metro tiles in 150 x 75mm and 75 x 75mm, a skirting tile, a plain cornice, and ten mouldings — Victoria, Egg & Dart, Dentil, Hogarth, Albert, Rope, Astragal, Scroll, Sigma and Omega. Original Style also make the Artworks external corner trim to order in Edwardian Green, so if a scheme needs a wrapped outside corner rather than a mitre, call us on 01344 620211 — made-to-order pieces can carry a minimum order quantity and a longer lead time. Tell us the room and we will work out what you need.

How do I finish the top of a half-height tiled wall?

With a moulding laid horizontally along the top course. The choice is a matter of weight: the Victoria and Plain Cornice at 75mm give a substantial architectural capping, the Egg & Dart and Dentil carry relief ornament, the Albert, Hogarth and Rope sit in the middle, and the Astragal, Sigma, Scroll and Omega are slim beads for a quieter line. All are supplied four to a box covering 0.6 linear metres. Measure the run, add 10%, and round up.

Installation & Care Tips

Installation & care

  • Adhesive & Grout: White flexible adhesive underneath, and a joint colour held in the middle band — grey of mid to deep strength, or a green-grey pulled from the glaze. Keep grout out of the recesses as you work; a relief profile that has been filled loses the shadow that makes it legible. Brilliant white is the greater danger on a piece like this, because it traces every step in pale outline until the modelling stops reading as modelling at all. Charcoal or black clogs those same steps and pushes the green towards a weight it does not carry. Rinse and re-rinse the sponge: haze clings to a deep gloss and is far harder to shift once it has dried.
  • Layout: Strike a level line right round the room before anything is fixed and set the whole moulding to it — a band this deep announces a fall in the wall immediately, and the eye reads its top edge long before it reads the tiles beneath. Where the run reaches a door architrave, stop it square against the casing rather than letting it die into the plaster, and plan every mitre deliberately, since the cut passes through the modelling itself.
  • Cleaning: The gloss glaze is non-porous and needs no sealing. Wipe with warm water and a mild detergent; avoid abrasive pads and acidic limescale removers, which will dull the surface over time.
