Description

Deep Relief, Deeper Colour

A 152 x 75mm glazed ceramic moulding with a boldly modelled classical section, in a saturated green with real depth: the Artworks Pavilion Green Victoria Moulding, from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.

Among the ten Artworks mouldings the Victoria is one of the two most substantial, measuring a full 75mm on the face. Its section is generously stepped, with pronounced hollows between crisp raised crowns, and it is designed to be read at a distance rather than examined at close quarters. That scale is the point: it will cap a run of field tiling in a hallway or a large bathroom without being swallowed by the wall around it. Like every linear piece in the range it is sold by the metre, four to a box covering 0.6 linear metres at 6.6 pieces per metre, so a four-metre run takes 27 pieces, or seven boxes.

This is where a saturated green does something no pale colour can. The glaze gathers thickly in the hollows of the profile and darkens there almost to a racing green, while the crowns, where the coat runs thin, stay bright and glassy. The effect is real contrast rather than a soft shadow — the section stays legible from the far side of a room and shifts as the light moves across the day. Use it to close a dado, to cap a splashback or to frame a shower recess. One practical point: the biscuit under the glaze is pale, so a mitred return at a corner will show as a light line along the cut. Mitre on a wet saw, take your time, and where you can, put the return somewhere other than the first wall you see on entering.

Installation & care

Installation & care

  • Adhesive & Grout: Fix with white flexible adhesive. Grout in a mid grey or a green-grey pitched close to the tile in depth, well below the brightness your eye first asks for. Brilliant white beside a saturated green is severe — it rules a hard grid along the run and takes the room towards a sports hall — and cream or ivory is equally unkind, going yellow against the green and simply reading as dirty. On a section modelled this deeply, keep the grout out of the hollows altogether: work it into the joints with a fine tool, then sponge the recesses clear before it begins to go off, or the shadows silt up and the profile flattens out.
  • Layout: Set the run out in whole pieces from the most visible end and dry-fit the whole length along a batten before any adhesive is mixed, so you can see exactly where the short piece will land. At 75mm on the face this moulding wants room to breathe — give it a clear band of plain tiling above or below rather than stacking it directly against another profile.
  • Cleaning: The gloss glaze is non-porous and needs no sealing. Wipe with warm water and a mild detergent; avoid abrasive pads and acidic limescale removers, which will dull the surface over time.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

Can Artworks Pavilion Green tiles be used in a shower or wet room?

Yes. Artworks is specified for both wet and dry wall areas, so Pavilion Green is at home in a shower enclosure, a wet room or around a bath. The background must be sound, dry and properly tanked, with a flexible waterproof adhesive and grout throughout the wet zone. A saturated green is at its most dramatic wet — under running water the glaze deepens towards bottle green and the wall reads several shades darker than it does dry.

Can I use Artworks Pavilion Green on the floor?

No. Artworks is a wall tile range only. The glaze is not rated for foot traffic and would scratch and dull quickly underfoot, and a gloss surface of this kind is slippery when wet. A strong green wall wants a floor that holds its own without competing — a black and white geometric, a plain black, or a warm terracotta quarry all work well beneath it. Call 01344 620211 and we will suggest something.

Will every Pavilion Green tile be exactly the same shade?

There is slight variation between production batches. On a saturated colour this shows differently from a pale one: rather than a visible half-shade shift, you may see a subtle difference in depth between one batch and another, which reads as patchiness across a large expanse. Order the whole quantity for a room at once, including your wastage allowance, and mix tiles from several boxes as you set out. If you are adding to existing tiling, send us a photograph and we will give you an honest view.

What adhesive and grout colour should I use with Pavilion Green?

White flexible adhesive. For grout, go deeper than instinct suggests: a mid grey or a soft green-grey, closer in depth to the tile than to the joint you might choose on a pale colour. Two to avoid. Brilliant white is the classic mistake on a strong green — the contrast is severe, it draws a hard grid over the wall and pushes the whole thing towards a sports hall or a swimming baths. And a cream or ivory grout turns yellow against this green and simply looks dirty. Close in tone, cool rather than warm.

Is Pavilion Green in stock, and how quickly can it be delivered?

Pavilion Green is usually held in stock across the range, field and half tiles and the full set of mouldings alike. We will confirm availability and a delivery date for your exact quantity when you order, and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000. If a piece is temporarily out we will tell you the lead time before you commit rather than after. Call 01344 620211 or visit us at 67 High Street, Ascot.

How does Pavilion Green compare with the other Artworks greens?

There are three, and only one of them is a strong colour. Pavilion Green is the saturated one — a confident mid green with real depth, the colour of painted outdoor joinery rather than a tint. Palm Green is a soft warm leaf green and Jade Breeze a pale cool sage; both are gentle enough to tile a whole room in, where Pavilion Green is a colour you make a decision about. If you want green as a background, choose one of the other two. If you want green to be the point of the room, this is the one. Order samples of all three and see them together.

Can I see a sample before I order?

Yes. Cut samples are free to collect from our Ascot showroom, or we can post one to you for the cost of postage. Seeing the glaze in your own light is the surest way to judge how it will sit against your paint, stone and metalwork.

How much extra should I order for cuts and wastage?

As a guide, add around 10% to your measured area for cuts and breakages, and nearer 15% for a herringbone, diagonal or brick-bond layout. It is also worth keeping a few spare tiles from the same batch in case a repair is ever needed.

Which pieces are available in Artworks Pavilion Green?

Fifteen pieces: the 152 x 152mm field tile, the 152 x 76mm half tile, a skirting tile, a plain cornice, an external corner trim, and ten mouldings — Victoria, Egg & Dart, Dentil, Hogarth, Albert, Rope, Astragal, Scroll, Sigma and Omega. Pavilion Green does not include a large brick tile, bevelled metro tiles, relief-moulded decorative tiles, handed corner pieces, an internal corner trim, wrapping pieces or rounded-edge tiles. Everything is sold by the box.

Are there corner pieces for the Pavilion Green Victoria Moulding?

No — handed corner pieces are not stocked in Pavilion Green. External corners are formed by mitring two lengths on site, which a good tiler will do neatly with a wet saw. One point specific to a strong colour: the biscuit beneath the glaze is pale, so a cut edge shows as a distinct light line and is more noticeable here than it would be on a pale tile. Turn the mitre towards the least visible side and allow a little extra material.
