Longer, Lower and Deliberately Flat

Measuring 228 x 75 x 9mm with a flat, unbevelled face, this is the Artworks Edwardian Green Large Brick, from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.

This is the long format in Artworks: 228mm end to end, 75mm high, and a solid 9mm through the body. Its face is flat and its edges are straight, with no chamfer anywhere on it. Where a bevelled metro throws a small chamfer around every tile and outlines each one before a joint is grouted, the large brick does the reverse — the glaze runs unbroken from one edge to the next, and the wall reads as a continuous plane with the joints doing all of the drawing. One tile covers 0.0171m², so about 58.5 of them fill a square metre. Box coverage is a separate supplier figure: 13 tiles to a box at 0.222m², and 4.5 boxes to the square metre.

That flatness is precisely what makes it worth having in a deep green. An uninterrupted glaze picks up window light in long horizontal bands and carries the colour without breaking it into outlined units, which is why the format sits so comfortably behind a kitchen run, floor to ceiling in a shower enclosure, or as the lower half of a cloakroom wall. Those wet locations are not an afterthought: the green is built on a copper-free glaze, a tougher recipe adopted so that a heritage colour could be specified over a bath or behind a sink instead of being confined to dry walls. Cutting one leaves the bare ceramic body showing along the edge, noticeably lighter than the glaze beside it. Outside corners want a decision early. Neither practical route needs a special part: cut a mitre where the walls meet, or bring a moulding round the angle and stop it. Should the scheme really want a wrapped trim, that piece exists as a commission from Original Style and is not one we keep — telephone the showroom and we will ask them about minimums and timing on your behalf.

Delivery

In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.

Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

Can Edwardian Green tiles be used in a shower or wet room?

Yes — and this is the colour that was made for it. Original Style developed Edwardian Green specifically for wet areas: showers, wet rooms, bathrooms and the wall behind a kitchen sink. It is made with a copper-free glaze recipe, which stands up to constant water better than the copper-based greens do. You still need a properly tanked substrate, a white flexible adhesive and a grout rated for wet areas, but the glaze itself is impervious and needs no sealing.

Can I use these on the floor?

No — Artworks is a wall range only. The ceramic body is not rated for foot traffic and the gloss glaze would scratch and lose its shine quickly underfoot. For a floor to sit beneath an Edwardian Green wall, a Victorian-style geometric floor or an encaustic-effect tile is the historically correct partner, and our team can help you pair one.

Will the colour be consistent across my order?

The Artworks glazes are applied over a pressed ceramic body and slight variation from tile to tile is part of the character rather than a fault — it is what stops a large tiled wall looking printed. Variation between production batches can be a little greater, so order the whole of a room in one go where you can, and mix tiles from several boxes as you set out rather than working box by box.

What adhesive and grout should I use with Edwardian Green?

Use a white flexible tile adhesive, which keeps the glaze reading true. For grout, aim for the middle: a mid to deep grey, or a soft green-grey close to the tile's own tone. Brilliant white draws a hard bright grid over a colour this saturated and fights it. Charcoal or black goes the other way and weighs the green down until it reads as a far darker colour than it is — precisely the effect Edwardian tiling was moving away from. A grey a shade or two darker than the wall you want lets the green stay green.

Is Edwardian Green in stock, and how quickly can I have it?

The range is usually held in stock and we can normally despatch within a few working days; mouldings and trims occasionally run on a longer lead time, so it is worth a call on 01344 620211 before you plan the fitting week. UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000, and we can hold a delivery back until your site is ready.

How does Edwardian Green compare with the other greens in the Artworks range?

Edwardian Green is the wet-area sibling of Victorian Green. Original Style describe it as offering most of the grandeur of Victorian Green while using a copper-free glaze recipe, which makes it the more hardwearing of the two in a shower or wet room. The trade-off is slightly less of the depth and natural variation that copper-based glazes give, so it reads a shade more subdued and a little more even across a wall. The other three greens are different colours rather than different depths: Pavilion Green is a brighter, more saturated mid green, Palm Green leans warm and leafy, and Jade Breeze is the palest, with a cool blue-grey cast. Cut samples are the only reliable way to choose between them, and we are happy to send several.

Can I see a sample before I order?

Yes. Cut samples are free to collect from our Ascot showroom, or we can post one to you for the cost of postage. Seeing the glaze in your own light is the surest way to judge how it will sit against your paint, stone and metalwork.

How much extra should I order for cuts and wastage?

As a guide, add around 10% to your measured area for cuts and breakages, and nearer 15% for a herringbone, diagonal or brick-bond layout. It is also worth keeping a few spare tiles from the same batch in case a repair is ever needed.

Which pieces are available in Edwardian Green?

We stock seventeen: the 152mm field tile and its half tile, a 228 x 75mm large brick, bevelled metro tiles in 150 x 75mm and 75 x 75mm, a skirting tile, a plain cornice, and ten mouldings — Victoria, Egg & Dart, Dentil, Hogarth, Albert, Rope, Astragal, Scroll, Sigma and Omega. Original Style also make the Artworks external corner trim to order in Edwardian Green, so if a scheme needs a wrapped outside corner rather than a mitre, call us on 01344 620211 — made-to-order pieces can carry a minimum order quantity and a longer lead time. Tell us the room and we will work out what you need.

How does the large brick differ from the metro tile?

It is bigger and flatter: 228 x 75mm with a straight, unbevelled edge, against the metro's 150 x 75mm bevelled face. The longer format means fewer joints across a wall and a calmer, more architectural rhythm — it reads as brickwork rather than as tiling. About 58 cover a square metre, with 13 to a box covering 0.222m².

Installation & Care Tips

Installation & care

  • Adhesive & Grout: White flexible adhesive, and grout kept firmly in the middle register — mid to deep grey, or a soft green-grey close to the tile's own tone. Brilliant white against a tile this long reads as a stack of pale ledges climbing the wall, and the calm of that flat face is the first thing to go. Charcoal or black does the opposite damage, pulling the green down until it reads as a much darker colour than it is. Deep gloss shows haze, so keep a clean sponge and fresh water within reach.
  • Layout: The 228 x 75mm proportion is made for a half-lap stretcher bond, though a third-lap stagger or a stacked vertical arrangement both work well. Check each dry-laid course with a level before fixing: a long tile reveals a fall much sooner than a square one does.
  • Cleaning: The gloss glaze is non-porous and needs no sealing. Wipe with warm water and a mild detergent; avoid abrasive pads and acidic limescale removers, which will dull the surface over time.
