Product story

Long, Low and Flat-Faced

Long, low and entirely flat across the face, 228 x 75mm of deep indigo gloss ceramic — the Artworks Royal Blue Large Brick, from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.

At 228mm long against 75mm high, the large brick works to a proportion of roughly three to one, and that is what gives a wall of it its travelling, horizontal look. The face is flat and the edges are square: there is no chamfer on this piece, so light crosses the surface in one continuous sheet rather than breaking into a line at every joint the way it does across a bevelled metro tile. The body is 8mm, a little more substantial than the field tile, under the same deep gloss glaze.

A flat face suits schemes where the colour is meant to do the work and the surface is meant to stay quiet — a shower enclosure taken floor to ceiling, a splashback run as one unbroken band, a chimney breast treated as a single plane. Set in a half-bond, the long courses pull the eye sideways and make a narrow room feel longer along its length. Against pale stone, marble or white sanitaryware the indigo reads as pigment rather than as shadow, and gilt or antique brass fittings have precisely the ground they need.

Delivery

In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.

Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.

When your order arrives

Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.

To request a return, contact Hyperion within 14 days of delivery. For eligible online consumer cancellations, you have a further 14 days after telling us to send the goods back. Contact us for the correct return address; your statutory cancellation does not depend on our authorisation.

Additional supplier returns have their own eligibility rules, charges and exclusions. These do not override statutory cancellation rights or rights for faulty goods. See our refund policy and supplier return guidance before arranging a return.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

Can Royal Blue tiles be used in a shower or wet room?

Yes. The glaze is impervious and unaffected by constant water, so these tiles are entirely at home in a shower enclosure, above a bath, behind a sink or across a wet-room wall. What matters is what sits behind and between them: a properly tanked substrate, a white flexible adhesive and a grout rated for wet areas. The tiles themselves never need sealing.

Can I use these on the floor?

No — Artworks is a wall range only. The ceramic body is not rated for foot traffic and the gloss glaze would scratch and lose its shine quickly underfoot. For a floor to sit beneath a Royal Blue wall, a black and white geometric or an encaustic-effect tile is the natural partner, and our team can help you pair one.

Will the colour be consistent across my order?

The Artworks glazes are applied over a pressed ceramic body, and slight variation from tile to tile is part of the character rather than a fault — it is what stops a large tiled wall looking printed. On a colour this deep the variation reads as movement in the glaze rather than as patchiness. Order the whole of a room in one go where you can, and mix tiles from several boxes as you set out rather than working box by box.

What adhesive and grout should I use with Royal Blue?

Use a white flexible adhesive. For grout, go dark and close in tone: a deep grey, a charcoal, or a blue-grey pitched near the tile's own depth. Against an indigo this deep, brilliant white draws a bright net across the wall and the tile ends up disappearing behind its own joints. A mid grey is the other one to avoid — too light to belong to the colour and too dark to read as a deliberate contrast, so it simply looks tired. Grout haze shows more readily on a deep gloss glaze than on a pale one, so sponge each section down as you go rather than leaving it.

Is Royal Blue in stock, and how quickly can I have it?

The range is usually held in stock and we can normally despatch within a few working days; mouldings and trims occasionally run on a longer lead time, so it is worth a call on 01344 620211 before you plan the fitting week. UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000, and we can hold a delivery back until your site is ready.

How does Royal Blue compare with the other blues in the Artworks range?

Royal Blue is the deep one. Original Style describe it as a deep indigo with an air of nobility, and it is the only blue in the range that behaves like a dark colour rather than a coloured one — it absorbs light where the others return it. The alternatives are all lighter and all pull in different directions: one is a warmer blue with a green cast, one a versatile mid-blue, and one a blue-grey that shifts with the light and reads almost as a neutral. If you are weighing Royal Blue against any of them, order cut samples of both and look at them on the actual wall at the time of day you use the room — a colour this deep changes more between rooms than a mid-tone does.

Can I see a sample before I order?

Yes. Cut samples are free to collect from our Ascot showroom, or we can post one to you for the cost of postage. Seeing the glaze in your own light is the surest way to judge how it will sit against your paint, stone and metalwork.

How much extra should I order for cuts and wastage?

As a guide, add around 10% to your measured area for cuts and breakages, and nearer 15% for a herringbone, diagonal or brick-bond layout. It is also worth keeping a few spare tiles from the same batch in case a repair is ever needed.

Which pieces are available in Royal Blue?

Eighteen — the fullest set of any of the blues. The 152mm field tile and its half tile, a 228 x 75mm large brick, bevelled metro tiles in 150 x 75mm and 75 x 75mm, a skirting tile, a plain cornice, an external corner trim, and ten mouldings: Victoria, Egg & Dart, Dentil, Hogarth, Albert, Rope, Astragal, Scroll, Sigma and Omega. Original Style also make rectangles, round-edge tiles, internal corners and corner wrapping pieces to order in this colour — those carry minimum quantities and longer lead times, so call us on 01344 620211 if a scheme needs one.

How does the large brick differ from the metro tile?

It is bigger and flatter: 228 x 75mm with a straight, unbevelled edge, against the metro's 150 x 75mm bevelled face. The longer format means fewer joints across a wall and a calmer, more architectural rhythm — it reads as brickwork rather than as tiling, which suits a deep colour, since fewer joints means less of a grid drawn over it. A 228 x 75mm tile covers 0.0171m², so a square metre takes about 58; boxes hold 15 and cover 0.254m² as supplied.

Installation & Care Tips

Installation & care

  • Adhesive & Grout: Fix with white flexible adhesive. The joint colour to aim for is charcoal, or a grey with blue in it, dropped near enough to the tile that the long courses read as continuous bands rather than as separate pieces. Steer clear of brilliant white — on an indigo this dark every joint becomes a bright rule and the setting-out is all anyone sees. Avoid a mid grey as well. Grey has no colour of its own to offer an indigo, so beside a blue this saturated it turns faintly muddy, and the long courses that ought to travel end up divided by a tone the wall has no use for. Deep gloss glazes hold grout haze, so lift the residue promptly and polish the face dry.
  • Layout: A half-bond, with each joint centred on the brick below, is the natural setting for this format; a third-bond, stepping each course by 76mm, gives a longer and more staircase-like run if you want more movement in the wall. A 228mm length is unforgiving of a wandering line, so snap a level datum first and build up from it. Where courses reach an outside corner, take them round with the external corner trim rather than cutting the brick back.
  • Cleaning: The gloss glaze is non-porous and needs no sealing. Wipe with warm water and a mild detergent; avoid abrasive pads and acidic limescale removers, which will dull the surface over time.
