Product story
The Serpentine Section, and What It Does With Light
The Charcoal Grey Hogarth Moulding, 152 x 38mm, is the serpentine border of the Artworks range, a slim profile whose section curves outward and then back again, from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.
Hogarth called the S-curve the line of beauty, and this is that line taken in section: 38mm of face that swells outward towards the top, hollows inward towards the bottom, and passes through a single point of inflection between the two. There is no ornament on it whatever — the shape is the entire content. Lengths are 152mm, as everything else in the range is, which puts 6.6 pieces into every linear metre and 600mm of finished run into a single box of four. A 2.8-metre run comes to 19 pieces, and five boxes will cover it with one piece to spare.
A reverse curve sets this glaze two opposite tasks within 38mm. Across the convex swell the colour is stretched thin over an outward face and lightens as the surface turns towards the room; in the hollow below the inflection it has somewhere to settle and keeps its full strength. What you see is a band that is bright along the top, deep along the bottom, and neither at the point where the direction changes — a soft, unbroken transition rather than a hard edge. That makes it a quiet thing to run along a stair wall or across a landing, where daylight arrives from a window at one end and travels along the profile rather than striking it square. There is no handed corner piece in this profile, so plan your angles as cut mitres and allow a little extra length for them.

Installation & care
Installation & care
- Adhesive & Grout: Bed the pieces on an even comb and hold a straightedge along the top arris as you work, because a curved section betrays a dip in the line far more readily than a flat one ever does.
- Layout: Mark the height of the band right along the wall before anything is fixed, and where the run meets a return, cut and dry-fit that mitre before any adhesive is mixed.
- Cleaning: There is nothing to seal; the gloss glaze is non-porous. Warm water and a mild detergent will do it. Abrasive pads and acidic limescale removers should be avoided, as both will flatten the shine over the years.
Samples
Tone, glaze and veining can read differently in your own light. Cut samples are free; sample postage is £4.99 (£8 for Original Style) and is refunded on tile orders over £50 using the code emailed with your sample order. Use the sample option in the buying panel, or call our Ascot team on 01344 620211 for help comparing colour, finish and quantities.
Delivery
In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.
Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.
When your order arrives
Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.
Returns
Unused, complete orders can be returned within 14 days of delivery; as tiles are picked and packed to your quantity, a restocking fee of 20–30% applies depending on the range. Special-order items are non-returnable unless damaged on delivery or faulty. Ordering a free sample first is the simplest way to avoid a return.
