Product story

A Twist of Tradition: Artworks Vintage White Rope Moulding 152 x 40mm

A 152 x 40mm ceramic moulding carrying the classic twisted rope relief, in a warm creamy gloss — from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.

Rope moulding is one of the enduring motifs of Victorian and Edwardian interiors, and it earns its place: the continuous twist gives a wall movement and a hand-made quality that a flat band simply cannot. Run at dado height or beneath a cornice, it softens an otherwise formal tiled scheme.

The relief is what makes the glaze sing, and a warm white sings more sweetly than a cold one. Vintage White gathers in the hollows of the twist and thins over the crests, producing a gentle, mellow shade variation along the length that catches every change of light through the day.

Installation & care

Installation & care

  • Adhesive & Grout: A white flexible adhesive is essential here; grout carefully and wipe the twist clean before it sets, as residue in the hollows is difficult to remove later.
  • Layout: Try to keep the rope pattern continuous across a run by planning cuts at the ends rather than the centre of a wall. Allow around 10% extra for cuts and mitres.
  • Cleaning: No sealing required. Warm water, a mild detergent and a soft brush will lift anything caught in the relief.
Samples

Tone, glaze and veining can read differently in your own light. Cut samples are free; sample postage is £4.99 (£8 for Original Style) and is refunded on tile orders over £50 using the code emailed with your sample order. Use the sample option in the buying panel, or call our Ascot team on 01344 620211 for help comparing colour, finish and quantities.

Delivery

In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.

Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.

When your order arrives

Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.

Returns

Unused, complete orders can be returned within 14 days of delivery; as tiles are picked and packed to your quantity, a restocking fee of 20–30% applies depending on the range. Special-order items are non-returnable unless damaged on delivery or faulty. Ordering a free sample first is the simplest way to avoid a return.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Rope moulding look like?

It carries a twisted rope relief along its length, a classic Victorian and Edwardian motif. Because the glaze pools slightly in the recesses of the twist, Vintage White reads with more depth and shade variation here than on a flat tile — the relief is what gives the piece its character.

How is the Rope moulding sold?

By the box of 4 pieces, covering 0.6 linear metres at 6.6 pieces per linear metre. Measure your run, add around 10% for cuts and mitres, then divide by 0.6 to give the number of boxes.

Will Vintage White match across the different Artworks shapes and mouldings?

Every Artworks piece is finished in the same Vintage White glaze, so field tiles, half tiles, mouldings, skirtings and corners are designed to be used together. As with any glazed ceramic there can be slight variation between production batches, so we recommend ordering everything for a scheme at the same time.

What adhesive and grout do you recommend for Artworks ceramic tiles?

Always use a white flexible tile adhesive — a grey adhesive can shadow through a white glaze and dull it. Allow a 2-3mm joint and choose a white grout for a seamless, luminous wall, or a soft grey to draw the eye to the layout.

Can I see a sample before I order?

Yes. Cut samples are free to collect from our Ascot showroom, or we can post one to you for the cost of postage. Seeing the glaze in your own light is the surest way to judge how it will sit against your paint, stone and metalwork.
