Description

The Finest Bead: Artworks Brilliant White Astragal Moulding 152 x 21mm

A delicate 152 x 21mm ceramic bead moulding, the most restrained profile in the range — from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.

In classical architecture the astragal is the small convex bead that separates one element from another — a punctuation mark rather than a sentence. This ceramic interpretation does exactly the same work on a tiled wall: a single raised line, glazed in deep Brilliant White, that divides without interrupting.

Use it to separate two tile colours or formats, to draw a fine edge above a skirting, or stacked with a deeper profile to build a layered moulding. In a small cloakroom, where a full dado would crowd the space, it is often the only detail a wall needs.

Installation & care

Installation & care

  • Adhesive & Grout: Use a white flexible tile adhesive and match the grout to the field tiles, so the bead reads as a moulded line rather than an inserted strip.
  • Layout: At 21mm, level is everything — work to a struck line or batten, because any drift in such a fine band is immediately obvious.
  • Cleaning: No sealing required. Warm water and a mild detergent will keep the bead bright; avoid abrasive pads and acidic cleaners.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

What is an astragal moulding?

An astragal is a small convex bead moulding, traditionally used to separate one architectural element from another. At just 21mm deep this is among the finest profiles in the Artworks range — a delicate raised bead rather than a statement band.

Where would I use such a slim moulding?

As a divider between two colours or formats of tile, as a fine edge above a skirting, or stacked with a deeper profile to build up a layered moulding. It is also the discreet choice for capping a half-height wall in a small cloakroom, where a deep dado would overwhelm the space.

Will Brilliant White match across the different Artworks shapes and mouldings?

Every Artworks piece is finished in the same Brilliant White glaze, so field tiles, half tiles, mouldings, skirtings and corners are designed to be used together. As with any glazed ceramic there can be slight variation between production batches, so we recommend ordering everything for a scheme at the same time.

What adhesive and grout do you recommend for Artworks ceramic tiles?

Always use a white flexible tile adhesive — a grey adhesive can shadow through a white glaze and dull it. Allow a 2-3mm joint and choose a white grout for a seamless, luminous wall, or a soft grey to draw the eye to the layout.

Can I see a sample before I order?

Yes. Cut samples are free to collect from our Ascot showroom, or we can post one to you for the cost of postage. Seeing the glaze in your own light is the surest way to judge how it will sit against your paint, stone and metalwork.
