Product story

Rounds of Natural Marble: North Haven Penny

A honed marble penny mosaic in soft grey with gentle green-tinged veining, mounted on mesh — North Haven Penny from Hyperion Tiles, your official Fired Earth stockist.

Small marble rounds — the classic penny — make a wonderfully tactile surface, full of gentle shadow lines. In North Haven the natural stone reads as a soft, cool grey with faint verdigris and mint movement, so each sheet is subtly its own. It brings texture and grip to bathroom floors and a soft period charm to walls and splashbacks.

Each sheet is real marble on a flexible mesh backing, 10mm thick. Being natural stone it is porous and should be sealed. Specified for interior walls and floors.

Installation & care

Installation & care

  • Adhesive & Grout: Use a white, flexible stone adhesive and a colour-matched grout. Seal the marble before grouting to protect the surface.
  • Layout Options: Butt the mesh sheets to keep the penny spacing even; trim at edges with a wet saw fitted with a stone blade.
  • Cleaning: Seal on installation and re-seal periodically. Clean with pH-neutral products only — avoid vinegar, bleach and acidic cleaners on natural marble.
Samples

Tone, glaze and veining all read differently in your own light. Cut samples are free — sample postage is £4.99 (£8 for Original Style) and we refund it on tile orders over £50 with the code we email you. Our family-run team is happy to check quantities and finishes with you on 01344 620211.

Delivery

In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.

Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.

When your order arrives

Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.

Returns

Unused, complete orders can be returned within 14 days of delivery; as tiles are picked and packed to your quantity, a restocking fee of 20–30% applies depending on the range. Fired Earth ranges are returned through Fired Earth’s own returns process, and special-order items are non-returnable unless damaged on delivery or faulty. Ordering a free sample first is the simplest way to avoid a return.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

Why use penny mosaics in a shower?

Penny mosaics are excellent for shower floors because the high ratio of grout to tile provides natural slip resistance. Additionally, the small chips on mesh backing can easily follow the slope of a shower tray towards the drain.

Does it need sealing?

Yes. North Haven is natural marble, which is porous. It must be sealed to protect it from water absorption, shampoo, and soap scum. We recommend sealing before grouting to prevent the grout from sticking to the face of the stone.

Is it hard to keep clean?

While there is more grout to clean than with large tiles, using a high-quality grout protector or epoxy grout can make maintenance easy. The varied colour of the stone is also excellent at hiding water marks and dust.

What colour is the stone?

It is a mix of "verdigris" (blue-green) and "mint" tones, with some chips appearing cloudy white or grey. This variation is a key feature of the North Haven range.
