It is made with a copper-free glaze recipe, which stands up to constant water better than the copper-based greens do. You still need a properly tanked substrate, a white flexible adhesive and a grout rated for wet areas, but the glaze itself is impervious and needs no sealing.

No — Artworks is a wall range only. The ceramic body is not rated for foot traffic and the gloss glaze would scratch and lose its shine quickly underfoot. For a floor to sit beneath an Edwardian Green wall, a Victorian-style geometric floor or an encaustic-effect tile is the historically correct partner, and our team can help you pair one.

The Artworks glazes are applied over a pressed ceramic body and slight variation from tile to tile is part of the character rather than a fault — it is what stops a large tiled wall looking printed. Variation between production batches can be a little greater, so order the whole of a room in one go where you can, and mix tiles from several boxes as you set out rather than working box by box.

Use a white flexible tile adhesive, which keeps the glaze reading true. For grout, aim for the middle: a mid to deep grey, or a soft green-grey close to the tile's own tone. Brilliant white draws a hard bright grid over a colour this saturated and fights it. Charcoal or black goes the other way and weighs the green down until it reads as a far darker colour than it is — precisely the effect Edwardian tiling was moving away from. A grey a shade or two darker than the wall you want lets the green stay green.

Edwardian Green is the wet-area sibling of Victorian Green. Original Style describe it as offering most of the grandeur of Victorian Green while using a copper-free glaze recipe, which makes it the more hardwearing of the two in a shower or wet room. The trade-off is slightly less of the depth and natural variation that copper-based glazes give, so it reads a shade more subdued and a little more even across a wall. The other three greens are different colours rather than different depths: Pavilion Green is a brighter, more saturated mid green, Palm Green leans warm and leafy, and Jade Breeze is the palest, with a cool blue-grey cast. Cut samples are the only reliable way to choose between them, and we are happy to send several.

As a guide, add around 10% to your measured area for cuts and breakages, and nearer 15% for a herringbone, diagonal or brick-bond layout. It is also worth keeping a few spare tiles from the same batch in case a repair is ever needed.

The choice is a matter of weight: the Victoria and Plain Cornice at 75mm give a substantial architectural capping, the Egg & Dart and Dentil carry relief ornament, the Albert, Hogarth and Rope sit in the middle, and the Astragal, Sigma, Scroll and Omega are slim beads for a quieter line. All are supplied four to a box covering 0.6 linear metres. Measure the run, add 10%, and round up.
