Description

Historic Charm, Contemporary Tone: Berkeley Charterhouse Oak

Infuse your home with the pale, weathered elegance of ancient timber with Berkeley Charterhouse Oak—an engineered wood floor that combines the texture of history with a modern, muted colour palette.

Part of the celebrated Berkeley collection, Charterhouse Oak stands out for its unique colourway. It features a beautiful wash of biscuit and greige tones, creating a light, airy feel reminiscent of driftwood or sun-bleached timber. Despite its lighter colour, it loses none of the drama; every plank is hand-scraped by artisans to produce an undulating surface full of character, knots, and splits that feels centuries old from the moment it is laid.

Design Inspiration

🌥️ The "Greige" Trend

Charterhouse Oak hits the perfect balance between grey and beige. This versatility allows it to warm up cool minimalist spaces or add a modern edge to traditional farmhouse interiors. Shop wood flooring.

🏡 Airy Renovations

The lighter tones reflect more light than traditional dark oak, making rooms feel larger and more open. Ideally suited for barn conversions or open-plan extensions where you want to retain character without darkening the room. View engineered wood.

🦶 Tactile Experience

The joy of a Berkeley floor is in the touch. The hand-scraped undulations feel wonderful underfoot, providing a natural massage effect that smooth laminates simply cannot replicate. Browse oak flooring.

⚠️ Installation & Care Tips

  • Installation Method: This T&G board offers flexibility; float it over an underlay (gluing the joints), nail it to a timber subfloor, or stick it directly to the screed.
  • Underfloor Heating: Fully compatible with UFH. For the best performance and warranty compliance, we recommend the glue-down method over underfloor heating.
  • Oiled Finish Care: The oil finish nourishes the wood but requires maintenance. Use Woodpecker's cleaning range to keep the floor hydrated and protected against stains.
  • Rustic Character: This is an "Extra Rustic" grade. It features deliberate large knots, splits, and filler to mimic an aged floor. This is a desirable design feature, not a defect.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

What colour is Charterhouse Oak?

It is described as having "washed grey and biscuit hues." It sits comfortably between a light oak and a cool grey, offering a pale, weathered look that is very popular in modern rustic interiors.

Is this floor smooth or textured?

It is highly textured. The hand-scraped finish means the surface is undulating (wavy) rather than flat. This, combined with sunken knots and distressed edges, gives it the feel of an antique floor.

What is the wear layer?

It features a generous 4mm solid oak wear layer. This provides the look and longevity of solid wood, allowing for future sanding if required, backed by the stability of an engineered core.

Does it come with a warranty?

Yes, Woodpecker Flooring provides an exceptional 100-year warranty on this product, a testament to its durability and build quality.

Can I use this in a kitchen?

Yes, engineered oak is suitable for kitchens. The rustic nature of the Berkeley range is particularly practical as it hides small accidents and wear better than a smooth, pristine floor. We recommend wiping up spills immediately.
