No Cut Edge on an Outside Corner

A 152 x 30mm glazed ceramic corner trim in a warm, green-leaning blue, the Artworks Baroque Blue External Corner Trim, from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.

This is the small component that finishes a tiled scheme at its outside corners. Its face is rounded and glazed right around, and it is made to sit on the arris of an outside corner — a chimney breast, a window reveal, a boxed pipe, the end of a half-height run — so the colour wraps the turn without interruption. A sawn tile leaves the pale unglazed body exposed along the entire length of the cut, and against a mid-toned blue that pale line is the first thing anybody sees. The trim takes it away. Each piece is 152mm long — 6.6 of them to a linear metre. A box holds four pieces and covers 0.6 linear metres.

It is a piece judged entirely by what you cannot see. Done properly, nobody registers the corner at all; they read an unbroken blue surface turning through ninety degrees, with the highlight running round the curve instead of stopping dead at an edge. Because we hold it here alongside the field and half tiles, the skirting, the cornice and the mouldings, the corners of a Baroque Blue scheme can be resolved when the order is placed rather than improvised on site. The rounded face softens the corner physically too, which counts in a shower enclosure or a narrow cloakroom where people brush past it. Under brass or copper fittings, the warm glaze along that curve catches light kindly.

Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

Can Baroque Blue tiles be used in a shower or wet room?

Yes. The glaze is impervious and unaffected by constant water, so these tiles are entirely at home in a shower enclosure, above a bath, behind a sink or across a wet-room wall. What matters is what sits behind and between them: a properly tanked substrate, a white flexible adhesive and a grout rated for wet areas. The tiles themselves never need sealing.

Can I use these on the floor?

No — Artworks is a wall range only. The ceramic body is not rated for foot traffic and the gloss glaze would scratch and lose its shine quickly underfoot. If you want a floor to sit beneath a Baroque Blue wall, a geometric or encaustic-effect floor tile is the natural partner, and our team can help you pair one.

Will the colour be consistent across my order?

The Artworks glazes are applied over a pressed ceramic body, and slight variation from tile to tile is part of the character rather than a fault — it is what keeps a large tiled wall from looking printed. Baroque Blue shows this more than most, because the green cast in it shifts a little with the light. Order the whole of a room in one go where you can, and mix tiles from several boxes as you set out rather than working box by box.

What adhesive and grout should I use with Baroque Blue?

Use a white flexible tile adhesive. For grout, the rule here follows from the colour: Baroque Blue is a warm blue, so choose a grout with warmth in it — a warm grey, a greige or a soft putty tone. Avoid a cool or blue-toned grey, which cancels the warmth and pulls the whole wall towards a colder, flatter blue than the tile actually is. Brilliant white is the other one to avoid: against a mid-toned glaze it draws a bright lattice across the wall and competes with the colour. Grout haze shows readily on a gloss glaze, so sponge each section as you go.

Is Baroque Blue in stock, and how quickly can I have it?

The range is usually held in stock and we can normally despatch within a few working days; mouldings and trims occasionally run on a longer lead time, so it is worth a call on 01344 620211 before you plan the fitting week. UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000, and we can hold a delivery back until your site is ready.

How does Baroque Blue compare with the other blues in the Artworks range?

Baroque Blue is the one that leans green. Original Style describe it as a slightly greener blue with a warm luminosity that sets it apart from the other blues in the range — which is why it sits so comfortably with gold, brass and copper, where a colder blue would fight them. The others are genuinely different colours: one is a versatile mid-blue, one a deep indigo, and one a blue-grey that shifts with the light. If you are choosing between them, order a cut sample of each and look at them in the actual room — blues are the hardest family in the range to judge from a screen.

Can I see a sample before I order?

Yes. Cut samples are free to collect from our Ascot showroom, or we can post one to you for the cost of postage. Seeing the glaze in your own light is the surest way to judge how it will sit against your paint, stone and metalwork.

How much extra should I order for cuts and wastage?

As a guide, add around 10% to your measured area for cuts and breakages, and nearer 15% for a herringbone, diagonal or brick-bond layout. It is also worth keeping a few spare tiles from the same batch in case a repair is ever needed.

Which pieces are available in Baroque Blue?

Fifteen: the 152mm field tile and its half tile, a skirting tile, a plain cornice, an external corner trim, and ten mouldings — Victoria, Egg & Dart, Dentil, Hogarth, Albert, Rope, Astragal, Scroll, Sigma and Omega. Baroque Blue is not made as a large brick or as a bevelled metro tile, so if a scheme needs one of those formats it will have to come from a different colour. Original Style also make rectangles, round-edge tiles, internal corners and corner mouldings to order in this colour — those carry minimum quantities and longer lead times, so call us on 01344 620211 if you need one.

What does the external corner trim do, and do I need one?

It is a 152 x 30mm piece with a rounded, fully glazed face that wraps an outside corner, so instead of two cut tile edges meeting at an arris you get one continuous curve of glaze. That matters more than it sounds: a cut tile shows the pale unglazed body along the cut, and on a mid-toned blue that line is conspicuous. The trim also gives a softer edge to walk past and a much easier one to keep clean. Four to a box covering 0.6 linear metres. If your scheme has an outside corner — a chimney breast, a boxed pipe, a window reveal — this is the piece that finishes it properly.

Installation & Care Tips

Installation & care

  • Adhesive & Grout: White flexible adhesive, and a grout chosen for its warmth: warm grey, greige or putty. A cool or blue-toned grey chills the colour outwards from every joint, and on a curved face running the full height of a corner that shows more than it would across flat tiling. Brilliant white is equally unwelcome here, since a stark joint at the corner draws the eye straight to the line this piece exists to keep quiet. Gloss holds haze, so polish the face off as you work along the run.
  • Layout: Count every outside corner in the room and measure its full height before ordering, then add a piece or two, because corner trims are easy to under-count and awkward to be short of once the tiling is under way. Bed the trim first and tile up to it on both faces, so the field tiles are cut on the concealed side instead of at the corner itself.
  • Cleaning: The gloss glaze is non-porous and needs no sealing. Wipe with warm water and a mild detergent; avoid abrasive pads and acidic limescale removers, which will dull the surface over time.
