The Detail That Makes an Outside Angle Look Deliberate

The Charcoal Grey External Corner Trim, 152 x 30mm, is the narrow rounded piece that turns an Artworks wall around an outside angle in this deep, glossy grey, from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.

Use it wherever tiling has to wrap an external angle — a window reveal, a chimney breast, the open end of a half-tiled wall — so the run finishes on a soft glazed edge rather than a mitred arris waiting to be chipped. At 152 x 30mm it follows exactly the same 152mm module as the field tile: count 6.6 trims against each metre of angle, and reckon on 600mm of covered edge from every four-piece box. A window reveal standing 2.4 metres tall takes 16 pieces, or four boxes.

On a corner the piece is seen from two directions at once, and that is where a glaze carrying some translucency behaves better than a solid one. The crown of the rounded edge takes the light and comes up several shades higher, while the flanks to either side stay at full depth, so the angle draws itself as a bright vertical line down the wall. Charcoal Grey makes a feature of an edge that most schemes would rather disguise. Internal corners, corner wrapping pieces and the round-edge trims are made in this colourway to order rather than held in stock, subject to a minimum run and a lead time, so have a word with us before your setting-out is signed off.

Delivery

In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.

Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.

When your order arrives

Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.

Returns

To request a return, contact Hyperion within 14 days of delivery. For eligible online consumer cancellations, you have a further 14 days after telling us to send the goods back. Contact us for the correct return address; your statutory cancellation does not depend on our authorisation.

Additional supplier returns have their own eligibility rules, charges and exclusions. These do not override statutory cancellation rights or rights for faulty goods. See our refund policy and supplier return guidance before arranging a return.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

Can Charcoal Grey be used in a shower or wet room?

Yes. Artworks Charcoal Grey is rated for internal walls, wet and dry, which covers a shower enclosure, wet room walls, the wall behind a bath and a splashback. The gloss glaze is non-porous, needs no sealing, and asks for nothing more than warm water and a mild detergent.

The work in a wet area goes on behind the tile rather than on it: the background wants to be flat, sound and properly tanked before a single piece is fixed, and the joints kept in good repair afterwards. What the colourway is not rated for is a floor — Artworks is a wall glaze from end to end.

Can I use Charcoal Grey on a floor?

No. Artworks is a wall range and a gloss wall glaze is not made to be walked on; underfoot it scuffs and loses its shine. That applies to every one of the fifteen shapes we stock in Charcoal Grey, from the field tile down to the 12mm Omega bead.

It rarely limits a scheme. Original Style photograph this colourway in a hall, above a Victorian geometric floor, and that pairing is easy to put together. Tell us the room and we will suggest a floor to sit beneath it — call 01344 620211, or come to 67 High Street, Ascot, and we will lay the two side by side.

Will the colour vary between boxes of Charcoal Grey?

A little, as with any glazed ceramic. This glaze is semi-opaque by design, so some difference from piece to piece is part of what you are buying — it is what makes a moulded profile legible rather than flat. Batch-to-batch difference is a separate thing, and it is slight, but two batches on one wall can still read apart once light crosses them.

Order the whole job at once and ask us to confirm the batch. Keep a spare box from it, too: a replacement drawn from the same batch will vanish into the wall in a way that one ordered three years later may not.

Which adhesive and grout colour should I use with Charcoal Grey?

Fix with a white flexible adhesive. The grout is the interesting decision here, because on this colourway it is a contrast choice rather than a blending one. Original Style photograph Charcoal Grey with a brilliant white joint, and they are right to: a pale grout rules the grid, separates one length of moulding from the next, and lets a profile be read at a glance.

A dark grout does the opposite. Matched close to the tile it fuses the whole wall into a single mass, and the mouldings, cornice and skirting you chose for their relief stop registering at all. If white feels too stark for the room, a pale silver-grey keeps most of the separation while softening the grid — but do not take the joint down to the tone of the tile.

Is Charcoal Grey in stock, and how is it delivered?

Charcoal Grey is usually in stock across all fifteen shapes we hold. Send your quantities through and we will confirm availability and a delivery date before anything is committed, so the tiler can be booked with confidence.

Delivery is free on UK orders over £1,000. You are welcome at our family-run showroom at 67 High Street, Ascot, where the Original Style range can be seen in person, or speak to the team on 01344 620211.

How does Charcoal Grey compare with the other Artworks greys?

Charcoal Grey is the dark one, and its distinguishing property is that it is not solid. Original Style describe it as a touch lighter than their Jet Black and, more to the point, less opaque — so the glaze sits thinner over the crown of a moulding and pools in the hollows, giving a single length of Egg & Dart or Dentil a real range of tone. On a flat field tile that shows as depth; on relief it is the whole argument for the colour.

Artworks runs to six greys and neutrals: Chancel Grey, Westminster Grey, London Stone, Charcoal Grey, Jet Black and Platinum. Westminster Grey is the neutral, London Stone the warm one, and Charcoal Grey is where the range goes dark without going flat. It was made in the first place to accompany the Fabergé decorative range, and we stock the Charcoal Grey decoratives on County White that the pairing was designed around.

Dark glazes are the hardest of all to judge on a screen, where photography and monitor calibration do most of the talking. Order samples of the two or three you are weighing up and look at them on the actual wall, in daylight and under the lamps you use at night. Cut samples are free to collect from our Ascot showroom, or posted to you for the cost of postage.

Which pieces are available in Charcoal Grey?

Fifteen shapes are stocked in Charcoal Grey: the Field Tile, the Half Tile, the Skirting Tile, the Plain Cornice and the External Corner Trim, together with ten mouldings — Victoria, Egg & Dart, Dentil, Rope, Albert, Hogarth, Scroll, Sigma, Astragal and Omega. All fifteen are held here, so a whole scheme can be drawn from one shelf.

Original Style make a further group in this colourway to order, subject to a minimum quantity and a manufacturing lead time: the Rectangle 152 x 25mm, the Round Edge Long, Round Edge Short and Round Edge External, the corner wrapping pieces, the Internal Corner, and the handed corner mouldings for the Omega, Astragal, Albert, Victoria and Skirting.

Alongside these we stock the Charcoal Grey decorative tiles on County White — cartouches, wreaths, trellises and borders, including the Fabergé Fleur de Lis the glaze was originally made to accompany. Tell us early which pieces your setting-out needs and we will price them, confirm the minimum and give you a realistic date. Call the team on 01344 620211.

Can I see a sample before I order?

Yes. Cut samples are free to collect from our Ascot showroom, or we can post one to you for the cost of postage. Seeing the glaze in your own light is the surest way to judge how it will sit against your paint, stone and metalwork.

How much extra should I order for cuts and wastage?

As a guide, add around 10% to your measured area for cuts and breakages, and nearer 15% for a herringbone, diagonal or brick-bond layout. It is also worth keeping a few spare tiles from the same batch in case a repair is ever needed.

Installation & Care Tips

Installation & care

  • Adhesive & Grout: Butter the back of each piece fully so there is no void sitting behind an exposed edge, because a corner is what takes the knocks, and keep the horizontal joints aligned with the field tiles arriving on both faces.
  • Layout: Fix the trim first and tile up to it from either side. Adding a corner piece once the field is already set almost always forces an unhappy cut on one flank.
  • Cleaning: There is nothing to seal; the gloss glaze is non-porous. Warm water and a mild detergent will do it. Abrasive pads and acidic limescale removers should be avoided, as both will flatten the shine over the years.
