The Piece That Turns The Outside Corner

A 152 x 30mm external corner trim in deep gloss brown: the Artworks Teapot Brown External Corner Trim, from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.

Wherever tiling has to wrap an outside angle — a window reveal, a chimney breast, the end of a half-wall, a boxed-in pipe run — something has to cover the meeting of two cut edges. This narrow glazed strip does it, presenting a proper finished face to both walls in place of exposed biscuit and a mitre that has to be cut perfectly to look right. It is 30mm on the face and runs at 6.6 pieces per linear metre, four to a box.

This piece earns its place more on a dark tile than on a light one. Cut through a ceramic tile and the body beneath the glaze is pale; on a white or ivory wall that pale edge barely registers, but on Teapot Brown it shows up as a conspicuous light line running down the very corner the eye goes to first. The trim removes the problem entirely and gives you a slim glossy return instead, which reads as a bright vertical highlight where the two planes meet. Note that internal angles need nothing bought in: Teapot Brown does not stock an internal counterpart, and none is wanted, because tiles butted and grouted into an inside corner read as a clean shadowed seam.

⚠ Installation & Care Tips

  • Adhesive & Grout: White flexible adhesive, and grout the trim in the same mid to dark grey, warm taupe or soft biscuit used on the field tiling. Avoid brilliant white altogether — a white joint tracing a corner on a dark glaze is the most conspicuous line in the room.
  • Layout: Fix the trim first and tile up to it on both faces, so the field tiles are cut to the trim rather than the trim being fitted to whatever gap is left. Internal angles need no trim at all — butt the tiles and grout the joint.
  • Cleaning: The gloss glaze is non-porous and needs no sealing. Wipe with warm water and a mild detergent; avoid abrasive pads and acidic limescale removers, which will dull the surface over time.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

Can Artworks Teapot Brown tiles be used in a shower or wet room?

Yes. Artworks is specified for both wet and dry wall areas, so Teapot Brown is at home in a shower enclosure, a wet room or around a bath. The background must be sound, dry and properly tanked, and a flexible waterproof adhesive and grout used throughout the wet zone. A deep gloss brown is particularly handsome in a shower — the glaze reads almost like treacle under water and light.

Can Artworks Teapot Brown be used on a floor?

No. Artworks Teapot Brown is a glazed ceramic wall tile and is not rated for floors. The glaze would scratch and wear through in traffic, and a gloss surface offers little grip underfoot. Keep it on the walls and use a porcelain, quarry or natural stone tile on the floor — a red or buff quarry tile sits beautifully beneath this brown, and our team can help you pair them.

Will Artworks Teapot Brown match my existing tiles?

Teapot Brown is a deep, richly pigmented glaze and shade can move a little between production batches — more visibly than in a white, because the eye reads any shift in a dark tone as a patch. Order the whole job at once so it comes from a single batch, keep a few spares from it for repairs, and if you are matching to tiles already fixed, ask us for a sample to hold against them first.

What adhesive and grout should I use with Artworks Teapot Brown?

Fix with a white flexible tile adhesive and allow a 2-3mm joint. For grout, a mid to dark grey, a warm taupe or a soft biscuit all sit well against the brown. Avoid a brilliant white — on a glaze this dark it draws a stark white lattice across the wall and cheapens it. If you want the brick pattern to read clearly, go one or two shades lighter than the tile rather than jumping to white.

Is Artworks Teapot Brown in stock, and how quickly can it be delivered?

Teapot Brown is usually held in stock across the range. We deliver throughout the UK, and delivery is free on orders over £1,000; below that it is calculated at checkout. If your project is on a deadline, or you need a large quantity of one piece, call the showroom on 01344 620211 and we will confirm availability before you order.

How does Artworks Teapot Brown compare with the other Artworks colours?

It is the darkest colour in the range. Brilliant White is cool and optical, Vintage White the warmest and most aged, County White a soft creamy Victorian white, Ivory a neutral cream with a grey undertone, Palladian Beige a quiet warm stone and Ochre a deep golden yellow. Teapot Brown goes further still — a rich treacle brown with the depth of an old Rockingham teapot glaze. It is the one colour in the range that reads as dark rather than as a tint, and it wants good light or a deliberately snug room.

Can I see a sample before I order?

Yes. Cut samples are free to collect from our Ascot showroom, or we can post one to you for the cost of postage. Seeing the glaze in your own light is the surest way to judge how it will sit against your paint, stone and metalwork.

How much extra should I order for cuts and wastage?

As a guide, add around 10% to your measured area for cuts and breakages, and nearer 15% for a herringbone, diagonal or brick-bond layout. It is also worth keeping a few spare tiles from the same batch in case a repair is ever needed.

Which Artworks pieces are available in Teapot Brown?

Eighteen pieces: the 152 x 152mm field tile, the 152 x 76mm half tile, a 228 x 75mm large brick, bevelled metro tiles in 150 x 75mm and 75 x 75mm, a skirting tile, a plain cornice, an external corner trim, and ten mouldings — Victoria, Albert, Astragal, Dentil, Egg & Dart, Hogarth, Omega, Rope, Scroll and Sigma. Teapot Brown does not include handed corner pieces, an internal corner trim, wrapping pieces, rectangles or rounded edges; where those details are needed they are mitred or butted on site.

Is there an internal corner trim in Teapot Brown?

No — Teapot Brown is supplied with an external corner trim but no internal one. Internal angles are normally simply butted and grouted, which is what most tilers would do in any case; a trim is rarely needed in an internal corner. If you want a moulded finish in the angle, talk to us and we will suggest a way to detail it.
