Product story
The Small Square, Faceted Four Ways
A 75 x 75mm gloss ceramic square, chamfered on every edge and glazed in the deepest green Artworks offers — the Artworks Victorian Green Metro Bevelled Tile 75 x 75mm, from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.
This is the metro reduced to a square: the same 10mm body and the same chamfered edge, but half the length, so it packs twice as densely. It takes 177.8 tiles to make a square metre — twice the number of the 150 x 75mm format, not four times, since only one dimension has halved. The result is a far tighter mesh of facets and a much stronger sense of small-scale, hand-set work.
Because every edge is chamfered and there are twice as many edges, the surface is an unusually active one. Each bevel takes the light and returns it as a bright line against a face that is very nearly black — one of the sharpest contrasts in the range — and at this scale those lines multiply into something closer to a quilted or beaten-metal texture than a flat tiled wall. It belongs in the small, deliberately enclosed room: the panelled billiard and smoking room, a compact shower, the back wall of a pantry. Take the density seriously, though, because a glaze this deep swallows light, and a small room lined in it will feel smaller and more shuttered — which is either precisely the atmosphere you are after or precisely the one you are not.

Installation & care
- Adhesive & Grout: White flexible adhesive, then a grout kept dark and close — deep grey, charcoal or a dark green-grey. This format carries more joint per square metre than anything else in the collection, so an ill-judged grout colour is magnified accordingly: brilliant white produces a contrast that is severe on a colour this deep and reduces the tiles to dark specks in a bright web, while a mid grey reads as neither one thing nor the other and looks tired within a season. Work in small areas and wipe promptly — haze lodges in the chamfers and is conspicuous on a glaze this deep.
- Layout: A straight stacked grid makes the most of the repeated square and keeps the facets aligned in both directions; a half-offset softens it and is more forgiving on an uneven wall. With this many tiles to a square metre, spend the time on setting out — use spacers of a consistent size and check the level every few courses, because small drifts accumulate very quickly at 75mm.
- Cleaning: The gloss glaze is non-porous and needs no sealing. Wipe with warm water and a mild detergent; avoid abrasive pads and acidic limescale removers, which will dull the surface over time.
Samples
Tone, glaze and veining all read differently in your own light. Cut samples are free — sample postage is £4.99 (£8 for Original Style) and we refund it on tile orders over £50 with the code we email you. Our family-run team is happy to check quantities and finishes with you on 01344 620211.
Delivery
In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.
Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.
When your order arrives
Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.
Returns
Unused, complete orders can be returned within 14 days of delivery; as tiles are picked and packed to your quantity, a restocking fee of 20–30% applies depending on the range. Special-order items are non-returnable unless damaged on delivery or faulty. Ordering a free sample first is the simplest way to avoid a return.
