Ground your design with the authentic look of aged cement but the modern performance of porcelain. The Patisserie Dark Porcelain Base Tile is a robust 20x20cm square that brings character and depth to any floor.
Inspired by the hard-wearing floors of traditional French shops and industrial workshops, this "Dark" base tile features a rich, matte charcoal tone that mimics the patina of real encaustic tiles. Unlike cement, however, this high-quality porcelain is non-porous, stain-resistant, and incredibly tough. It is designed to handle heavy foot traffic without showing wear, making it the ultimate practical choice for busy family kitchens, boot rooms, and entrance hallways where durability is paramount.

- No Sealing Needed: This is a high-grade porcelain tile, meaning it is non-porous and requires no sealing or specialist maintenance.
- Grout Width: We recommend a 3mm grout joint. A dark grout (Charcoal or Black) creates a seamless look, while a light grey grout emphasizes the grid pattern.
- Batch Matching: If pairing with patterned tiles from the same range, be aware that slight tonal variations can occur between the plain base tiles and decorated tiles due to production methods. Dry lay first to ensure you are happy with the blend.
- Cleaning: Simply sweep and mop with a standard floor cleaner. The dark colour is exceptionally forgiving of everyday dirt and dust.
Samples

Delivery
In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.
Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.
When your order arrives
Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.
Returns
Unused, complete orders can be returned within 14 days of delivery; as tiles are picked and packed to your quantity, a restocking fee of 20–30% applies depending on the range. Fired Earth ranges are returned through Fired Earth’s own returns process, and special-order items are non-returnable unless damaged on delivery or faulty. Ordering a free sample first is the simplest way to avoid a return.

Shipping Information
Once an order has been placed goods that are in stock, can normally be dispatched for delivery within 3-5 working days. Delivery of special orders, slabs, large-format tiles, some bathware and sizeable orders is best carried out on one of our specialist off-load vehicles, so timescales will be advised before any tiles are ordered. A specific delivery date will be arranged to suit you.
