Product story

Depth & Drama: Abalon Abyss Glass Mosaic

Bring the depth of open water to a wall with the Abalon Abyss glass mosaic from Hyperion Tiles.

Abalon Abyss is the deepest note in the range — a midnight blue glass mosaic that holds the light rather than throwing it back. Set as 2.5cm chips across a 33.3 x 33.3cm mesh-backed sheet, the surface shifts between near-black and inky teal as you move past it, the way water does at depth.

Glass takes colour differently to ceramic. The pigment sits within the body rather than on top of it, giving the tone a translucency that glaze cannot imitate. Frostproof and rated for swimming pool tanks as well as internal walls, Abalon Abyss is equally at home lining a pool, a shower enclosure or a splashback. The small chip and mesh backing allow it to follow a curve, wrap a reveal or turn a niche cleanly.

Installation & care

Installation & care

  • Adhesive & Grout: Use a white flexible adhesive suitable for glass — a grey or cement-coloured adhesive will read through the chips and dull the colour. A dark grout deepens the Abyss tone; a pale grout lifts the individual chips into relief.
  • Layout Options: Run Abyss alone for an enveloping, saturated wall, or gradate it into Cerulean and Celeste for a tonal wash that lightens as it rises.
  • Cleaning: Clean with warm water and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Glass needs no sealing and will not stain.
Samples

Tone, glaze and veining all read differently in your own light. Cut samples are free — sample postage is £4.99 (£8 for Original Style) and we refund it on tile orders over £50 with the code we email you. Our family-run team is happy to check quantities and finishes with you on 01344 620211.

Delivery

In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.

Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.

When your order arrives

Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.

Returns

Unused, complete orders can be returned within 14 days of delivery; as tiles are picked and packed to your quantity, a restocking fee of 20–30% applies depending on the range. Special-order items are non-returnable unless damaged on delivery or faulty. Ordering a free sample first is the simplest way to avoid a return.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate how many Abalon Abyss sheets I need?

Abalon Abyss is sold by the sheet, with each 33.3 x 33.3cm sheet covering 0.111m² — that works out at 9 sheets per m². Measure your area in square metres, add 10% for cuts and wastage, then multiply by 9 and round up. Waxman also supply Abalon by the pack of 18 sheets, covering 2m². Our friendly team is always happy to check your quantities on 01344 620211.

Where can I use Abalon Abyss?

Abalon Abyss is a frostproof glass mosaic rated for internal walls and swimming pool tanks. That makes it a natural choice for shower enclosures, splashbacks, bathroom feature walls and pool linings. Because the 2.5cm chips are mounted on a flexible mesh-backed sheet, it will follow a curve, wrap a reveal or turn a niche cleanly — which is why mosaics are so often used where a large-format tile simply cannot go.

What adhesive and grout should I use with Abalon Abyss?

Always use a white flexible adhesive suitable for glass. This matters more than it does with ceramic: glass is translucent, so a grey or cement-coloured adhesive will read through the chips and dull the colour. For grout, a dark shade will deepen the Abyss tone and let the wall read as one surface, while a paler grout lifts each chip into relief. For swimming pool installations, use an adhesive and grout system rated for continuous immersion. We stock suitable products and are happy to advise on 01344 620211.

How do I clean and maintain Abalon Abyss?

Glass is one of the easiest surfaces to live with. Abalon Abyss needs no sealing and will not stain — simply clean with warm water and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Avoid abrasive pads or harsh chemicals, which can scratch the surface or degrade the grout. The colour is held within the body of the glass rather than in a surface glaze, so it will not fade with use or sunlight.
