The Timeless White Metro: Metropolitan Queensway

A crisp white glazed metro tile inspired by the tiled walls of the London Underground — Metropolitan from Hyperion Tiles, your official Fired Earth stockist.

The Metropolitan range takes its cue from the beautifully tiled walls of the Tube's stations, updated for the modern home. Queensway is the quintessential white metro, its lively gloss glaze carrying a gentle surface movement that softens the light and lifts it above the ordinary. It is the natural choice for a kitchen splashback, a bathroom or a boot-room wall.

Measuring a slim 7.5 x 22.5cm, it lays in a classic brick bond, a herringbone or a vertical stack. Glazed ceramic, it needs no sealing and wipes clean effortlessly.

Installation & care

Installation & care

  • Adhesive & Grout: Fix with a standard flexible wall-tile adhesive. A white grout keeps the look seamless; a soft grey grout draws out the classic metro pattern.
  • Layout Options: Lay in a 50% brick bond, a vertical stack or a herringbone. Shuffle tiles from several boxes to blend the natural variation in the glaze.
  • Cleaning: Wipe with warm water and a mild cleaner. The glazed surface needs no sealing and resists splashes and steam.

Delivery

In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.

Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.

When your order arrives

Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.

Returns

Unused, complete orders can be returned within 14 days of delivery; as tiles are picked and packed to your quantity, a restocking fee of 20–30% applies depending on the range. Fired Earth ranges are returned through Fired Earth’s own returns process, and special-order items are non-returnable unless damaged on delivery or faulty. Ordering a free sample first is the simplest way to avoid a return.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

How many tiles do I need to order?

The Metropolitan Queensway tiles require 60 tiles to cover 1m². To ensure you have enough for cuts and wastage, we highly recommend ordering an additional 10% on top of your room measurements.

Can this tile be used as a kitchen splashback or in a shower?

Yes. These classic ceramic metro wall tiles are fully suitable for internal wet and dry walls, making them a highly popular choice for bathroom walls, shower enclosures, and easy-to-clean kitchen splashbacks. They are also suitable for hearths and fireplace surrounds (when placed at least 30cm from the heat source).

Do crackle glaze tiles need to be sealed?

Yes. Because the Metropolitan range features a glazed finish that is prone to beautiful variable crazing (micro-cracking), tile sealing is strictly required before you apply grout. This protects the delicate surface from absorbing moisture, grout pigments, or everyday stains in kitchens and bathrooms.
