A Shimmering Scallop: Metallic Vitreum Argentum Fish-Tail

A fish-tail (fan) glass mosaic in shimmering silver Argentum — Metallic Vitreum from Hyperion Tiles, your official Fired Earth stockist.

Each mesh-backed sheet is composed of gently faceted glass scales, backed with a lustrous colour foil that catches and reflects the light. Laid across a wall, the overlapping fan pattern creates a soft, undulating shimmer — an elegant partner for a bathroom feature wall or a kitchen splashback.

The cool silver-grey Argentum tone keeps the scalloped design contemporary and refined. Non-porous glass wipes clean in a moment and never needs sealing.

Installation & care

Installation & care

  • Adhesive & Grout: Fix with a white glass-mosaic adhesive to avoid shadowing through the translucent glass, and finish with a fine, colour-matched grout.
  • Layout Options: Sheets butt together on their mesh backing for a continuous fan pattern — dry-lay a section first to align the scallops.
  • Cleaning: Wipe with warm water and a mild cleaner. Glass is non-porous, needs no sealing and resists splashes and steam; avoid abrasive pads, which can scratch the surface.
Delivery And Returns

Try it before you commit

Tone, glaze and veining all read differently in your own light. Cut samples are free — sample postage is £4.99 (£8 for Original Style) and we refund it on tile orders over £50 with the code we email you. Our family-run team is happy to check quantities and finishes with you on 01344 620211.

Delivery

In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.

Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.

When your order arrives

Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.

Returns

Unused, complete orders can be returned within 14 days of delivery; as tiles are picked and packed to your quantity, a restocking fee of 20–30% applies depending on the range. Fired Earth ranges are returned through Fired Earth’s own returns process, and special-order items are non-returnable unless damaged on delivery or faulty. Ordering a free sample first is the simplest way to avoid a return.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

Which way up should these tiles be installed?

The beauty of the fan shape is its versatility. You can install them with the rounded edge at the top for a classic Art Deco fan look, or with the rounded edge at the bottom for a "fish scale" or teardrop effect. Both create a stunning, light-reflecting pattern.

How do I clean these tiles?

Maintenance is very simple. Use a soft cloth with warm soapy water or a standard glass cleaner. Avoid abrasive pads, which could scratch the polished glass surface over time.

s the silver finish likely to flake off?

No. The silver metallic layer is a specialised foil bonded to the back of the glass and then sealed with a protective coating. It is shielded by the glass body and will not peel, flake, or tarnish under normal conditions.

Can these be used as a border?

Yes! Because of the interlocking nature of the shape, they make an incredible horizontal border or a vertical "waterfall" feature in showers and bathrooms.
