Quietly Grounding: Hoxton Porcelain Amber Matt

A warm, creamy amber porcelain, its surface threaded with a soft crystalline lattice — now stocked in two formats, from Hyperion Tiles, your official Ca' Pietra stockist.

Hoxton Amber is the warm heart of the collection, a gentle reworking of natural quartzite. Across its face runs a fine crystalline lattice — not a pattern so much as a texture, catching the light differently as you move through a room. The effect is timeless rather than fashionable, and quietly grounding.

Rectified edges let it be laid to a tight 2mm line. Fully vitrified and frostproof, it needs no sealing and is equally at home run up a bathroom wall as across a kitchen floor.

Choose the format to suit the proportion of the room. The 60 x 120cm plank draws the eye along a long hallway or an open-plan kitchen and leaves very few joints. The square 60 x 60cm is the more neutral choice for bathrooms and smaller rooms, and is far easier to carry, cut and lay. Usefully, both cover exactly 1.44m² per box, so switching between them does not change your quantities.

⚠ Installation & Care Tips

  • Adhesive & Grout: Use a flexible adhesive applied with a notched trowel, and back-butter to avoid voids. Grout in a close tone to keep the surface reading as one plane.
  • Layout: Rectified edges allow a tight 2mm joint. Shuffle tiles from several boxes so the lattice texture distributes naturally, and allow around 10% for cuts.
  • Large format: A substrate for the 60 x 120cm must be genuinely flat — check with a long straightedge and use levelling clips to control lippage. A one-third offset suits planks better than a half bond, which can accentuate any bow.
  • Cleaning: No sealing required. Warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner keep the matt surface even; avoid waxes and polishes.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

Should I choose the 60 x 60cm or the 60 x 120cm?

Both carry the same matt surface, the same 9mm body and the same crystalline lattice, so it comes down to proportion. The 60 x 120cm plank suits long hallways, open-plan kitchens and feature walls, where its length draws the eye through the space. The square 60 x 60cm is the more neutral choice for bathrooms, smaller rooms and anywhere the layout is broken up by fittings — and it is far easier to carry, cut and lay. Since both cover 1.44m² per box, switching between them does not change your quantities.

How many Hoxton tiles are in a box?

Both formats cover the same 1.44m² per box — the 60 x 60cm is four tiles to a box, the 60 x 120cm is two. That makes the arithmetic simple: measure your area, add around 10% for cuts, then divide by 1.44 to give the number of boxes, whichever format you choose.

What is the crystalline lattice on the surface?

A fine, softly drawn pattern across the tile face — closer to a texture than a print. It gives the surface quiet movement without reading as a decorative tile, so it works comfortably across a whole floor.

Is the 60 x 120cm difficult to lay?

It needs a genuinely flat substrate and levelling clips to control lippage, and most tilers will back-butter each tile. The reward is far fewer grout lines and a much calmer floor. If that sounds like more than your project needs, the 60 x 60cm is considerably easier to handle and lays like a conventional tile. Our team is happy to talk your fitter through either.
