The Chequerboard, Scaled Up and Cooled Down
A diamond chequer drawn at large scale in grey on off-white, this is the calmest way to bring a geometric period floor into a modern house, and it can be ordered in any quantity from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.
Grey against chalk halves the contrast of a traditional black-and-white chequer, which changes how the floor behaves in a room. It still gives the diagonal rhythm and the sense of an entrance hall properly dressed, but it no longer competes with everything else in the space. In kitchens and garden rooms that restraint is usually the point.
Each tile is porcelain, 298 x 298mm, 8mm thick, matt, with a straight edge. The face works out at 0.0888m². Original Style pack them six to a box. Coverage is published by the supplier as 11.11 tiles per square metre. The approval reaches walls and floors outdoors, so the chequer can continue through a back door.

For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.
When your order arrives
Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.
Returns
To request a return, contact Hyperion within 14 days of delivery. For eligible online consumer cancellations, you have a further 14 days after telling us to send the goods back. Contact us for the correct return address; your statutory cancellation does not depend on our authorisation.

Installation & care
- Adhesive & Grout: Flexible adhesive and flexible grout indoors; outdoors, an exterior-grade adhesive rated for freeze-thaw is essential under a large-format tile.
- Layout: Decide early whether the diamonds run square to the room or at forty-five degrees, because the two options produce very different cut patterns at the perimeter.
- Cleaning: The supplier recommends sealing prior to grouting, followed by a second coat once residue from the joints has been cleaned from the face. Neutral cleaner and warm water thereafter. On a hall floor, grit does the damage, so a good entrance mat outlasts any amount of specialist cleaning product.

Once an order has been placed, goods that are in stock can normally be dispatched within 3–5 working days. Delivery of special orders, slabs, large-format tiles, some bathware and sizeable orders is best carried out on one of our specialist off-load vehicles, so timescales will be advised before any tiles are ordered. A specific delivery date will be arranged to suit you.
