About Fired Earth tiles

Fired Earth has spent forty years doing the unfashionable thing: making tiles the slow way, and refusing to stop when the trend moved on. Hand-cut Moroccan zellige that catches light like water. Chalky Delft squares painted one at a time. Terracotta from the same French clay beds it has always come from — alongside porcelain engineered to survive a family hallway while looking like quarried stone.

What makes the range unusual is the company it keeps. Nina Campbell, Kelly Hoppen and Bert & May have all drawn for Fired Earth, so a single brand can give you the statement floor, the plain wall that lets it breathe, and the trim that joins them — in colours that were chosen together rather than matched afterwards.

We are an official Fired Earth stockist, holding the full collection with cut samples posted to your door. Our Ascot team knows these ranges in person: which zellige shades vary most, which porcelains suit underfloor heating, and how many boxes your room actually needs.

Where Fired Earth tiles work best

Bathrooms. Zellige and hand-glazed ceramic bring movement to a small room that flat, machine-perfect tile never will. For floors, the patterned porcelains give a period feel with none of the sealing.

Kitchens. A painted Delft or Carnival splashback does the work of a piece of art. Underfoot, the stone-effect porcelains take spills, chairs and dogs without complaint.

Halls and living spaces. Victorian geometrics, encaustic-look porcelain and large-format limestone — the surfaces people notice first and comment on for years.

Outdoors. Frost-proof porcelain in matching finishes, so a kitchen floor can run through to a terrace without a change of material.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Fired Earth tiles unique?

Fired Earth tiles are celebrated for their rich colour palettes, handcrafted quality and timeless design. They also:

  • Blend traditional craftsmanship with stylish finishes, creating tiles that make a real statement in period and contemporary homes.
  • Take inspiration from global heritage, such as Moroccan zellige and Victorian patterns, giving you a wide choice of aesthetics.
  • Feature meticulous craftsmanship, often by skilled artisans, leading to tonal and surface variations that add character and depth.
  • Offer luxurious solutions that elevate any room, whether you’re looking for handcrafted terracotta, classic glazed metro tiles or encaustic-inspired floor tiles.
  • Aren’t mass-produced or trend-led but thoughtfully created to endure, retaining their style and performance for many years. Their products include a range of handmade or hand-decorated natural stone, ceramic and porcelain tiles.

For homeowners seeking something distinctive with a design-led finish, Fired Earth tiles are a sophisticated and lasting choice.

Are Fired Earth tiles suitable for bathrooms and wet areas?

Yes, many Fired Earth tiles are ideal for use in bathrooms, wet rooms and other moisture-prone areas:

  • Glazed wall tiles, stone-effect options and slip-resistant floor tiles are stylish and practical bathroom installations.
  • Available in materials such as porcelain, ceramic and natural stone, and many are specifically designed to handle the demands of a wet environment.
  • Their collections also include coordinated ranges for walls and floors, so you can achieve a seamless design throughout the space. Fired Earth's bathroom products also integrate well with the rest of their collections.
  • Matt or textured Fired Earth tiles provide added grip, making them a long-lasting and elegant choice for bathrooms.
Do Fired Earth tiles require sealing?

Some Fired Earth tiles require sealing, depending on the material and where they are being installed. At Hyperion Tiles, we advise checking the individual product specifications carefully:

  • Glazed ceramic and porcelain tiles are typically non-porous and don’t need sealing, making them easy to maintain.
  • Natural stone tiles such as limestone, travertine or marble should always be sealed before and after installation to protect against stains, moisture and wear.
  • Certain encaustic or terracotta-style tiles are also more porous and benefit greatly from sealing.

We recommend using a high-quality impregnating sealer suitable for the specific tile material, and we’re happy to help you select the appropriate products and provide aftercare advice.

Can Fired Earth tiles be used with underfloor heating?

Yes, most Fired Earth floor tiles are suitable for use with underfloor heating systems when installed correctly. We often recommend porcelain, ceramic and natural stone tiles, as they are excellent heat conductors and retain warmth well.

However, it’s essential to:

  • Use flexible adhesives and grouts during installation to accommodate the subtle movements caused by heat expansion.
  • Increase the temperature gradually after installation to avoid thermal shock.

Fired Earth tiles offer comfort and energy efficiency, warming your space while complementing your interior. For the best results, always follow Fired Earth’s installation guidelines and consult a qualified professional familiar with heated floor systems.

Are Fired Earth tiles environmentally friendly?

Fired Earth emphasises sustainability and responsible sourcing, making them a sustainable choice. Our Fired Earth tiles:

  • Are made from natural materials such as clay, stone or recycled components.
  • Adhere to high standards of energy efficiency and waste reduction.
  • Are crafted with durability in mind, reducing the need for frequent replacement and contributing to long-term environmental benefits.
  • Feature ranges produced by small-scale artisans using traditional methods, supporting heritage crafts. Fired Earth prioritises lowering their carbon footprint through the use of low-VOC paints, eco-friendly sourcing and manufacturing practices.
