Description

A Classic Pattern, Properly Proportioned: Lyndhurst Chestnut Herringbone Wood Effect Porcelain Tile 10 x 70cm

A slender 10 x 70cm porcelain batten in warm chestnut brown, cut to the proportions a herringbone floor deserves – Lyndhurst from Hyperion Tiles, your official Fired Earth stockist.

Herringbone lives or dies by its proportions, and at seven times longer than it is wide, this batten throws a long, elegant zigzag rather than a busy one. Each piece carries the textured grain, natural knots and gentle tonal shifts drawn from real boards, so the finished pattern has the movement of a parquet floor laid decades ago. Chestnut is the warmer colourway – an earthy mid-brown that lifts north-facing rooms and flatters cream plaster, aged brass and natural linen.

Because this is porcelain rather than wood, the pattern goes places timber cannot follow. Set it across a kitchen, turn it through a hallway, or run it up a shower wall as a feature – over underfloor heating, and mopped clean at the end of the week. No sealing, no sanding, no swelling.

The Hyperion Family Promise

  • Design Continuity - Lyndhurst is offered in Chestnut and Walnut across three formats – 10 x 70cm herringbone, 19.8 x 119.8cm planks and 5.3 x 30cm parquet – so a herringbone hallway can meet a plank kitchen without a change of tone.
  • Premium Durability - Glazed porcelain specified for internal walls and floors, shower walls, wet room floors, worktops and hearths (minimum 30cm from the heat source), and approved for use over underfloor heating.
  • Order a Sample - See the grain and tone in your own light before you commit. As an official Fired Earth stockist, we offer free cut samples to collect from our Ascot showroom, or posted to your door for a small postage charge.
  • Dedicated Delivery - We arrange safe, secure delivery for your project, with free UK delivery on orders over £1,000.
  • Personalised Project Support - Our family-run team can help you calculate quantities: sold by the Tile — 14.29 tiles per m² (0.07m² per tile). Herringbone generates more cuts than a straight lay, so allow extra.

⚠ Installation & Care Tips

  • Setting Out: Herringbone is unforgiving of a rushed start. Snap a centre line, dry-lay the first few courses from several boxes at once to blend the shade variation, and work outwards so the cuts fall evenly at both perimeter walls. Allow roughly 10-15% extra for cuts and wastage.
  • Adhesive & Grout: Fix with a flexible adhesive suited to porcelain, back-buttering each batten for a solid bed. Allow a 3mm grout joint and choose a tonal grout – on a herringbone floor the joints draw the eye, so a contrasting grout will read as a grid rather than as timber.
  • Cleaning: No sealing required. Sweep or vacuum, then mop with a pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid waxes, oils and polishes intended for real wood, which leave a film on a matt porcelain surface.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

Are Lyndhurst tiles made of real wood?

No. Lyndhurst is a glazed porcelain tile that reproduces the grain, knots and tonal variation of real timber. You get the look of a board floor with the durability and water resistance of porcelain, so it can be laid in bathrooms and wet rooms and over underfloor heating, where solid wood cannot go.

Which Lyndhurst format should I choose?

All three formats share the same Chestnut and Walnut colourways, so you can mix them freely. The 19.8 x 119.8cm plank gives the calmest, most timber-like floor and suits open-plan rooms. The 10 x 70cm herringbone throws a long, elegant zigzag that works beautifully in hallways and kitchens. The 5.3 x 30cm parquet is scaled for intricate patterns such as basketweave and Versailles panels, and makes an excellent border around a plank floor.

Can Lyndhurst be used in bathrooms, wet rooms and over underfloor heating?

Yes. Fired Earth specifies Lyndhurst for internal walls and floors, kitchens, bathrooms, shower walls, wet room floors, worktops, and hearths at least 30cm from the heat source, and it is approved for use over underfloor heating. It is an interior tile only, as Fired Earth publishes no external frost rating for this range.

Do Lyndhurst tiles need sealing?

No. Lyndhurst is glazed porcelain, so the surface is already impervious and needs no sealer. Sweep or vacuum, then mop with a pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid the waxes, oils and polishes made for real wood, which leave a film on a matt porcelain surface. In heavy-traffic areas a grout protector on cementitious grout is worth considering.

Can I order a Lyndhurst sample before I decide?

Yes. As an official Fired Earth stockist we offer free cut samples of Lyndhurst. Collect one from our Ascot showroom at 67 High Street, or we can post it to you for a small postage charge. Lyndhurst carries significant shade variation by design, so we always recommend seeing a piece in your own light first.
