Black Alalpardo: Bert & May Encaustic-Effect Porcelain

A 20 x 20cm encaustic-effect porcelain tile carrying an intricate interlocking geometric motif – a crisp monochrome design in deep black on a chalky white ground – the Bert & May Black Alalpardo tile from Hyperion Tiles, your official Fired Earth stockist.

Bert & May are known for their richly patterned encaustic tiles, and this glazed porcelain interpretation faithfully recreates Alalpardo’s pattern and pigment while adding the durability of a fully vitrified body. Set it out as an all-over statement floor, a feature wall or a characterful splashback – shuffle tiles from several boxes to make the most of the natural variation.

Crafted in matt glazed porcelain at 20 x 20cm, it is frostproof and specified for internal and external walls and floors, wet rooms and underfloor heating. No sealing required.

Installation & care

Installation & care

  • Adhesive & Grout: Use a high-quality flexible adhesive and a grout in a soft, tonal shade. For wet and external areas, specify a frost-resistant, exterior-grade system throughout.
  • Layout: Lay with a 2–3mm joint, shuffling tiles from several boxes to balance the natural shade variation across the surface.
  • Cleaning: Sweep and mop with warm water and a mild cleaner. As a glazed porcelain, it needs no sealing and shrugs off splashes, steam and frost.
Samples

Tone, glaze and veining all read differently in your own light. Cut samples are free — sample postage is £4.99 (£8 for Original Style) and we refund it on tile orders over £50 with the code we email you. Our family-run team is happy to check quantities and finishes with you on 01344 620211.

Delivery

In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.

Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.

When your order arrives

Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.

Returns

Unused, complete orders can be returned within 14 days of delivery; as tiles are picked and packed to your quantity, a restocking fee of 20–30% applies depending on the range. Fired Earth ranges are returned through Fired Earth’s own returns process, and special-order items are non-returnable unless damaged on delivery or faulty. Ordering a free sample first is the simplest way to avoid a return.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

How many Bert & May Black Alalpardo tiles will I need?

Bert & May Black Alalpardo is sold individually, with 25 tiles covering one square metre. Multiply your area in square metres by 25 for the tile count and add around 10% for cuts and wastage. Our Ascot team can help on 01344 620211.

Where can Bert & May Black Alalpardo be used?

Bert & May Black Alalpardo is hard-wearing porcelain suitable for interior and exterior walls and floors, including bathrooms, kitchens, wet rooms and swimming pools — a frost-resistant choice that works equally well indoors and out.

Does Bert & May Black Alalpardo need sealing?

No — porcelain is non-porous, so Bert & May Black Alalpardo never needs sealing. It's low-maintenance and easily cleaned with warm water and a mild detergent; only the grout lines may benefit from sealing.

Is Bert & May Black Alalpardo suitable for bathrooms and wet areas?

Yes — porcelain's very low water absorption makes Bert & May Black Alalpardo an excellent choice for bathrooms, showers and wet rooms and exterior use. For wet-area floors, check the slip rating in the specification or choose a textured finish where extra grip is needed.
