Classic Oak: Aire Roble 20x120cm

Lay the look of seasoned oak with the Aire Roble 20x120cm wood-effect porcelain plank from Hyperion Tiles.

Roble is Spanish for oak, and this is the most traditional note in the range — a warm mid brown with the grain, knots and shadow of a seasoned board running the full 1.2 metre length of the plank. It is finished to a V4 substantial variation, the strongest grade there is, which means the planks differ markedly from one to the next. That is the whole point: it is what makes a tiled floor read as a boarded one.

Porcelain gives you the look of wood in the places wood cannot go. Rated F4 for heavy domestic traffic and PTV +36 underfoot, frostproof and impervious to water, Aire will take a wet boot room, a shower floor or a terrace without swelling, cupping or needing so much as an oil. Rectified for a crisp, narrow joint.

Installation & care

Installation & care

  • Adhesive & Grout: Use a high-quality flexible adhesive suitable for large-format porcelain, and back-butter each plank — a 1.2 metre tile is unforgiving of voids. A mid-brown grout close to the tile tone keeps the floor reading as boards rather than a grid.
  • Layout Options: Avoid a 50% brickbond with planks this long: the natural bow in any large-format tile leaves a lipped joint at the centre. A one-third or one-quarter stagger is the safer and better-looking choice. Dry-lay several packs and shuffle them — with V4 variation, mixing the planks is essential.
  • Cleaning: Sweep and clean with warm water and a mild floor cleaner. Unlike real timber the surface needs no oiling or sealing, and will not mark from a wet umbrella or a dog's paws.
Samples

Tone, glaze and veining all read differently in your own light. Cut samples are free — sample postage is £4.99 (£8 for Original Style) and we refund it on tile orders over £50 with the code we email you. Our family-run team is happy to check quantities and finishes with you on 01344 620211.

Delivery

In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.

Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.

When your order arrives

Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.

Returns

Unused, complete orders can be returned within 14 days of delivery; as tiles are picked and packed to your quantity, a restocking fee of 20–30% applies depending on the range. Special-order items are non-returnable unless damaged on delivery or faulty. Ordering a free sample first is the simplest way to avoid a return.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

How many Aire planks do I need?

Aire is sold by the pack, with each pack containing 7 planks and covering 1.68m² (4.17 planks per m²). Measure your total area in square metres, add 10% for cuts and wastage — or 15% if you are laying a stagger or working around awkward returns, as long planks generate more offcuts. Divide by 1.68 and round up. Do note each pack weighs 32kg. Our friendly team is always happy to check your quantities on 01344 620211.

How should I lay Aire plank tiles?

We would steer you away from a 50% brickbond. Every large-format tile has a slight natural bow along its length, so offsetting a 1.2 metre plank by half puts the highest point of one plank against the lowest point of its neighbour — which produces a visible lip. A one-third or one-quarter stagger keeps the joints flat and reads more like a real timber floor anyway. Use a levelling system, back-butter each plank, and dry-lay several packs first so you can shuffle the V4 variation evenly rather than letting dark or light planks cluster.

Why choose wood-effect porcelain over real wood?

Because porcelain goes where timber cannot. Aire is impervious to water and frostproof, so it will take a wet room, a boot room, a kitchen or an outdoor terrace without swelling, cupping, staining or needing to be oiled and re-sanded. It is rated F4 for heavy domestic traffic and PTV Shod +36 underfoot, and it works over underfloor heating far more efficiently than wood — timber insulates, porcelain conducts. What you give up is the feel of real timber underfoot; what you gain is a floor that looks the same in ten years.

What does V4 substantial variation mean?

V4 is the highest shade-variation grade, and it means planks within the same pack will differ markedly in tone, grain and knotting. On a wood-effect tile that is entirely deliberate — real timber boards are never identical, and without that variation a floor reads as an obviously repeated pattern. Do open several packs at once, dry-lay a run and shuffle the planks before fixing. A sample of one plank will not show you the range, so we would always suggest ordering a cut sample alongside a look at the full range in our Ascot showroom.
