The small format of the individual herringbone pieces, combined with the multiple grout lines and the tumbled finish, provides natural slip resistance. However, because they are natural stone, they must be properly sealed to protect them from water and soap absorption in wet areas.

Do these natural marble and travertine mosaics require sealing?

Yes, sealing is absolutely essential. Both marble and travertine are naturally porous stones. You must seal the tiles with a high-quality stone impregnator before grouting (to prevent grout haze from staining the stone) and again after installation. Regular resealing will maintain their beauty and durability.

Can I use the Athens mosaic collection in a kitchen splashback?

Absolutely. The intricate herringbone design makes a stunning statement behind a kitchen sink or hob. Once properly sealed, the stone will be protected against daily cooking splashes and spills, making it both a highly decorative and functional choice.

How are these mosaics installed?

The individual marble and travertine pieces are pre-mounted on flexible mesh sheets measuring approximately 29.2 x 30.2cm. This makes installation much faster and more accurate than laying individual small tiles. We recommend using a high-quality, flexible white adhesive to ensure the natural colour of the stone is not affected by a dark adhesive showing through.

Can I use Athens marble mosaics with underfloor heating?
