Product story
A Running Scroll in Twenty-Nine Millimetres
A narrow 152 x 29mm moulding carrying a continuous running scroll, glazed in near-black bottle green — the Artworks Victorian Green Scroll Moulding, from Hyperion Tiles, your official Original Style stockist.
The running scroll is the classical wave motif, a repeating curl that rolls steadily along a band; it is familiar from Greek friezes and from the borders of Victorian encaustic floors. What makes this piece genuinely useful is the compression. It fits properly modelled ornament into a band under thirty millimetres deep, which means a decorated border becomes possible in places where a 50 or 65mm moulding would sit too heavily on the wall.
Against a near-black glaze that small ornament punches well above its size. Each curl traps the glaze at its centre and reads as very nearly black there, while the ridge of every wave carries a fine highlight, so the band becomes a line of alternating light and shadow rather than a flat strip of colour — ornament carved out by the glaze rather than merely suggested by it. It is the piece for a border on a wall that is already busy: around a window reveal in a tiled shower, along the top of a splashback, or as a second, quieter line running beneath a deeper moulding.

Installation & care
Installation & care
- Adhesive & Grout: Bed on a white flexible adhesive and match the grout closely to the tile — charcoal, deep grey or a dark green-grey all sit correctly. Brilliant white is the one real mistake available, drawing a hard bright line either side of a band whose ornament is only 29mm deep and swamping it entirely; on a near-black green it is the most extreme contrast the range can give. A mid grey looks merely dull beside this depth of colour. Keep grout out of the centres of the scrolls as you go, and be thorough with the sponge, as haze is far more apparent on a deep gloss glaze.
- Layout: The scroll repeats every 152mm, so plan the cuts to fall at an internal angle or behind a fitting rather than mid-motif, where a truncated curl is very noticeable.
- Cleaning: The gloss glaze is non-porous and needs no sealing. Wipe with warm water and a mild detergent; avoid abrasive pads and acidic limescale removers, which will dull the surface over time.
Samples
Tone, glaze and veining can read differently in your own light. Cut samples are free; sample postage is £4.99 (£8 for Original Style) and is refunded on tile orders over £50 using the code emailed with your sample order. Use the sample option in the buying panel, or call our Ascot team on 01344 620211 for help comparing colour, finish and quantities.
Delivery
In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.
Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.
When your order arrives
Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.
Returns
Unused, complete orders can be returned within 14 days of delivery; as tiles are picked and packed to your quantity, a restocking fee of 20–30% applies depending on the range. Special-order items are non-returnable unless damaged on delivery or faulty. Ordering a free sample first is the simplest way to avoid a return.
