Timeless Flagstone Heritage: Wychwood Limestone Velvet Finish

Experience the ultimate in geological luxury with the Wychwood Limestone Velvet Finish by Ca' Pietra—a stone that defines the heritage of the English country home.

A premier centerpiece of our Natural Stone Collection, the Wychwood Limestone (previously known as Hamlet) is presented in a classic 60cm x Random Length format. This traditional layout allows the stone’s rich caramel-beige tones and delicate fossil inclusions to take center stage without the interruption of a repetitive grid. The signature Velvet finish provides a sophisticated, tactile surface that feels like soft satin underfoot, bridging the gap between rustic charm and contemporary refinement.

Crafted at a substantial 20mm thickness, these natural limestone flagstones provide an unmatched sense of permanence and architectural depth for internal floors and walls. Because every slab is a unique piece of earth’s history, the V3 high shading variation ensures a floor full of character and life. When professionally sealed, Wychwood Velvet becomes a lifelong investment that adds significant prestige and value to any luxury residential project.

The Hyperion Family Promise

  • Authentic Heritage Aesthetics - We supply hand-selected limestone from Ca' Pietra, ensuring the V3 variation provides the realistic fossil depth and mineral character of real stone.
  • Traditional Free Length Format - The 60cm wide random length layout creates an organic, flowing floor design that is a hallmark of English architectural history.
  • Advanced Thermal Performance - As a genuine natural stone, Wychwood is an exceptional partner for underfloor heating, providing a gentle and sustained radiant warmth.
  • Signature Velvet Tactility - The specialized satin finish offers a premium "barefoot" feel that separates this limestone from standard honed or tumbled alternatives.

⚠ Installation & Care Tips

  • Sealing: This is a porous natural limestone. It must be sealed with Stain Block or Stone Shield before and after grouting to prevent permanent marking and moisture ingress.
  • Adhesive: Use a high-quality flexible, white tile adhesive specifically formulated for natural stone to prevent shadowing or staining through the surface.
  • Grout: We recommend a 3-5mm grout joint to complement the flagstone aesthetic. A neutral buff or ivory grout will perfectly blend with the caramel-beige tones.
  • Maintenance: Clean only with pH-neutral stone cleaners. Avoid acidic or bleach-based household products which will damage the limestone and erode the velvet finish.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

What does "60 x Random Length" mean for my floor layout?

Random length (also known as free length) means every tile has a consistent width of 60cm, but the lengths of the individual slabs vary. This is the traditional way to lay English limestone flagstones; it breaks up the rigid grid pattern of square tiles and creates a more natural, flowing aesthetic that feels like it’s been there for centuries.

Is the Velvet finish practical for a family kitchen?

Absolutely. While the finish feels soft and "velvety" to the touch, it is still a durable natural stone. The satin-like surface is easier to sweep and clean than a heavily tumbled stone, and because Wychwood is a dense limestone, it stands up well to the traffic of a busy household once properly sealed.

How often do I need to re-seal Wychwood Limestone?

We recommend sealing the stone immediately upon installation (before and after grouting). In a standard residential setting, you should typically look to top up the sealant every 3–5 years, depending on the level of foot traffic and the type of cleaning products used. Always use pH-neutral cleaners to ensure the sealant lasts as long as possible.
