Are the Ca'Pietra Stone Glaze Ceramic tiles suitable for floors?

The 5x20cm Gloss Brick tiles are designed exclusively for interior walls and are not suitable for floors. However, the 10x10cm Matt Square tiles (available in Terra and Chalkstone) offer the necessary traction and structural durability to be used on both interior walls and domestic floors.

Do these handcrafted ceramic tiles require sealing?

No. Despite their rustic, artisanal appearance, the Stone Glaze collection is partially vitrified during firing and features a thick, robust enamel glaze. This creates a non-porous barrier against moisture and everyday stains, meaning they require absolutely no specialist sealing either before or after installation.

Can I use the Stone Glaze collection in a shower enclosure?

Absolutely. The glazed ceramic body makes these tiles wonderfully water-resistant and easy to wipe clean. They are a spot-on choice for creating highly textured, visually dynamic shower walls and wet room feature areas. (Please note the Gloss Bricks are for walls only).

Will the tiles look exactly like the sample?

Due to the traditional hands-on crafting process and the hand-applied glazes, there is a very high amount of intentional tonal, sizing, and thickness variation in this product. No two tiles are identical. We highly recommend opening several boxes and blending the tiles before fixing to ensure a balanced, beautifully varied final aesthetic.

What size grout joint should I use?

Because the edges of these artisanal tiles are slightly irregular and undulating, you cannot lay them with an ultra-thin, seamless joint. We recommend aiming for a 2–3mm grout joint to comfortably accommodate the natural size variations. Using a warm white grout will beautifully define each individual tile, while a colour-matched grout will soften the joints for a more cohesive, single-surface look.

Instead of a uniform, machine-made finish, expect to see raised speckles, gentle bowing, beautiful pooling where the thick glaze has gathered, and subtle variations in size and tone. This ensures every single tile reflects the maker's touch, imbuing your walls with unmatched soul and character.

Rich Hand-Poured Enamels

What sets this collection apart is the exquisite, thick enamel glaze. Created using traditional formulas and natural metal oxides passed down through generations, the glaze is painstakingly hand-poured over each tile. During the firing process, the tiles become partially vitrified, locking in the brilliant colours while allowing the natural hue of the raw clay to gently peer through the transparent layers. The result is a profoundly deep, luminous surface available in 17 alluring, nature-inspired shades ranging from deep oceanic blues to soft, earthy terracotta.

Artistic Layout Possibilities

Because of their highly artisanal nature, the Stone Glaze tiles are not designed to sit perfectly flat and uniform. They encourage you to install them with artistic flair. The 5x20cm Gloss Bricks can be laid in classic brick-bond, stacked vertically to draw the eye upwards, or arranged in a charming mini-herringbone pattern for a standout kitchen splashback. For a highly tactile, grounded feel, the 10x10cm Matt Squares provide a beautifully rustic foundation that can even be used on domestic floors.
