What does a "riven" finish mean?

A riven finish refers to the natural cleft or split surface of the slate. Instead of being honed perfectly smooth, the stone is split along its natural layers, resulting in a beautifully textured, slightly uneven surface that provides authentic rustic character and excellent natural slip resistance.

Can I install the Metropolitan Slate with underfloor heating?
