Frequently Asked Questions

Are the Ca'Pietra Marlborough tiles suitable for outdoor use?

The Marlborough Porcelain tiles in the Natural finish are exceptionally durable, fully frost-proof, and feature an R11 slip rating, making them highly suitable for exterior patios and pathways. However, the handmade Marlborough Terracotta tiles and the Gloss porcelain tiles are designed exclusively for interior applications.

Do the Marlborough tiles require sealing?

This depends on the material you choose. The genuine Marlborough Terracotta tiles are highly porous and must be properly sealed before grouting, and again after installation, to protect against moisture and stains. The Marlborough Porcelain tiles, conversely, are completely non-absorbent and require zero sealing or specialist maintenance.

Can I install these tiles with underfloor heating?

Yes. Both the natural terracotta and the high-density porcelain are excellent thermal conductors. They will efficiently absorb heat and release it slowly into the room, making the entire Marlborough collection perfectly compatible with both electric and water-based underfloor heating systems.

What is a Bejmat tile?

Included in the Marlborough Terracotta range, a Bejmat is a traditional, elongated rectangular tile that originates from Moroccan design. Measuring 6.5x20cm, these slender bricks can be laid in classic stacked patterns, sweeping running bonds, or intricate herringbone layouts to create highly textured feature walls and floors.

How do I clean and maintain natural terracotta?

Once your handmade terracotta floor is correctly sealed, regular maintenance is simple. Sweep to remove abrasive grit, and clean the surface using a damp mop and a pH-neutral specialist natural stone cleaner. Avoid using harsh, bleach-based supermarket cleaners, as these can easily strip away the protective sealant.

Authentic Earthy Warmth

The Ca'Pietra Marlborough collection is a celebration of enduring, natural materials and artisanal craftsmanship. For those who appreciate the genuine character of traditional flooring, the Marlborough Terracotta range offers an unmatched level of rustic warmth. Because each terracotta piece is handmade, no two tiles are exactly alike. The natural variations in the deep red and rich amber tones, along with the gently undulating surface, create a beautifully lived-in, organic aesthetic that brings instant soul to kitchens, boot rooms, and hallways.

Endless Creative Formats

To provide total creative freedom, the terracotta collection goes far beyond standard squares and rectangles. It embraces the growing trend for unique geometric shapes, offering striking options such as the intricate Arabesque, the elongated Bejmat, classic Hexagons, and sweeping Parquet bricks. This allows you to introduce highly traditional materials into modern, bespoke layouts, adding an extra layer of architectural interest and texture to your feature walls and interior floors.

High-Performance Porcelain Alternatives

If you love the look of rustic terracotta but require a completely maintenance-free surface, the Marlborough Porcelain range is the ideal solution. Designed to perfectly replicate the charming irregularities and tactile feel of the original terracotta, these high-density tiles are exceptionally durable and entirely non-porous. Available in beautiful Natural textured finishes—which boast an R11 slip rating for seamless indoor-to-outdoor patio installations—as well as striking Gloss finishes for dramatic interior walls, the porcelain options deliver outstanding modern practicality without sacrificing heritage style.
