Begin with kitchen splashback tiles in glazed ceramic, handmade-look glazes or glass that wipe clean behind the hob and sink. Carry the scheme on with kitchen wall tiles, from metro to pattern, then choose kitchen floor tiles in hard-wearing porcelain, natural stone or terracotta to suit the way your household lives. Compare samples in your own light, or bring your plans to our Ascot showroom.

Choose kitchen tiles around each surface

A kitchen scheme can combine a practical floor with a more decorative splashback. Start with kitchen floor tiles for the main walking area, then compare kitchen wall tiles alongside your cabinet fronts, worktops and paint. Repeating a colour can connect the surfaces without using the same tile everywhere.

Kitchen floors: compare finish and maintenance

Choose a floor-rated product for the amount of traffic and exposure to spills you expect. Porcelain, natural stone and terracotta have different care requirements, so compare maintenance as well as appearance. Confirm the exact tile's slip-performance information and any sealing requirements before ordering. For underfloor heating, your installer should check the tile, adhesive, substrate and heating system together.

Splashbacks: plan the edges before the centre

Glazed ceramic, porcelain, glass and mosaics offer different reflections and textures. Plan where the tiling will stop at the end of a worktop, around a window and beside sockets. Decide on exposed edges and trims before calculating quantities. Around a hob, follow both the tile manufacturer's restrictions and the appliance manufacturer's clearance requirements.

Browse kitchen splashback tiles or compare kitchen mosaics for smaller-scale patterns. Crackle glazes, metallic finishes and natural stone can need specific sealing or cleaning.

Pattern and colour with your cabinetry

Compare samples vertically for a splashback and horizontally for a floor: the same finish can look different in each position. Test grout colour alongside the tile rather than choosing it from a separate chart. A close colour match softens the joints; contrast makes the layout more visible.

For a decorative focal point, explore patterned kitchen tiles and the Sanderson and Nina Campbell collections. Use the product specification to distinguish wall-only ceramics from floor-rated designs.

Calculate the complete kitchen order

Measure floors and splashbacks separately. Check coverage per pack, allow for cuts and the pattern repeat, and agree quantities with your installer before ordering. Include trims and the appropriate fixing materials in your plan. Check product availability and delivery arrangements before booking installation.

Our Ascot showroom team can help coordinate floor, wall and splashback finishes. Choose up to five free cut samples on eligible products; paid options are priced individually and limited to one of each. Check sample options and supplier postage before ordering.

Expert guidance

Kitchen tile questions, answered

Practical guidance on kitchen walls, floors, splashbacks, finishes and choosing tiles that work hard every day.

What are the best tiles for a kitchen splashback?

Glazed ceramic and porcelain tiles are the most popular and practical choice for kitchen splashbacks. They are heat-resistant, non-porous and exceptionally easy to wipe clean, which is essential behind hobs and around food-preparation areas where grease and splashes are inevitable. Metro tiles remain a timeless favourite, while glass, metallic and patterned tiles offer a more contemporary or decorative statement. Natural stone can be used for a softer, characterful look but should be sealed to protect it from grease and acidic foods. Because a splashback is a relatively small area, it is also a great place to invest in a more eye-catching designer tile. Our team can help you choose a splashback that is both beautiful and effortless to maintain.

Are tiles a good choice for kitchen flooring?

Tiles are an excellent choice for kitchen flooring because they are durable, water-resistant and easy to clean, ideal for a room prone to spills, dropped items and heavy foot traffic. Porcelain is particularly well suited, offering outstanding hardness, stain resistance and a huge variety of finishes, including realistic wood and stone effects. Natural stone and terracotta bring warmth and character but require sealing to guard against staining. For safety, choose a floor tile with a suitable anti-slip rating, as kitchens are prone to splashes. Tiles also work brilliantly with underfloor heating, adding comfort underfoot. Tell us about your kitchen and we can recommend a floor that combines durability, safety and style.

Are kitchen tiles heat-resistant enough to go behind a hob or cooker?

Yes. Ceramic and porcelain tiles are fired at extremely high temperatures during manufacture, which makes them highly heat-resistant and very well suited to use behind hobs, cookers and ranges. They will comfortably withstand the heat generated by normal cooking without discolouring or degrading. This is one of the reasons tiled splashbacks remain so popular in kitchens. It is worth noting that behind certain appliances, particularly some ranges and wood-burning installations, minimum clearances and specific requirements may apply, so it is always sensible to check the appliance manufacturer's guidance. For standard hobs, our ceramic, porcelain and glass splashback tiles provide a safe, durable and easy-clean surface.

How do I clean and maintain kitchen tiles?

Glazed ceramic and porcelain kitchen tiles are wonderfully low-maintenance: a regular wipe with a soft cloth and a mild, pH-neutral cleaner is usually all that is required to keep them looking immaculate, and they resist grease and stains well. Avoid abrasive scourers and harsh chemicals, which can dull the glaze over time. Grout lines benefit from occasional attention with a grout cleaner to keep them fresh. Natural stone tiles need a little more care: they should be sealed and cleaned only with stone-safe, pH-neutral products, as acidic cleaners can damage the surface. We stock appropriate cleaning and aftercare products, and our team can advise on the best routine for your specific tiles.

Can I use the same tiles on my kitchen floor and walls?

Yes, coordinating or matching tiles across kitchen floors and walls is a popular way to create a unified, spacious feel. Most floor-rated tiles can also be used on walls, so you can run a single design throughout for a seamless look. However, wall tiles should never be laid on the floor, as they are thinner and not rated for foot traffic. When using one tile in both locations, bear in mind that the floor needs adequate slip resistance, so a polished finish that looks superb on a wall may not be ideal underfoot. Our product pages indicate suitability for walls and floors, and our team can help you plan a coordinated kitchen scheme.

Can I order kitchen tile samples?

Yes. Sample options vary by tile. Eligible products offer free cut samples; other cut or full tile samples may be paid, and postage is shown before checkout. Check each product page to choose the right option for your scheme.
