For these moisture-rich environments we particularly recommend porcelain and glazed ceramic tiles, which have very low water absorption and are easy to keep clean. Natural stone and marble can also be used to beautiful effect in bathrooms, though they should be properly sealed to protect against water and staining. Glass mosaics are another popular choice for showers thanks to their water resistance and light-reflecting finish. When tiling a shower enclosure or wet room, correct waterproofing behind the tiles is essential. Start by measuring the height and width of each wall you intend to tile, then multiply them together to find the area in square metres. Add the areas of all the walls together, and subtract the area of any large openings such as windows or doors. We then strongly recommend adding 10 to 15 percent extra to allow for cuts, breakages and future repairs, and slightly more for patterned tiles or diagonal layouts, where wastage is higher.
