Rory Dobner Z – Zig Zag Salamander Alphabet Tile

Rory Dobner's drawings start life as pen and ink, and they carry onto ceramic with the detail intact — fine linework, a good deal of wit, and a character worth looking at twice. A single tile reads as a small piece of art; a run of them spells out a name, a number or a word across a wall.

The 15 x 15cm format sits neatly alongside plain field tiles, so one decorated tile can be set into an otherwise quiet run, or a whole panel built from a sequence. Each is decorated by hand, so no two are ever quite the same.

Delivery

In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.

Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.

When your order arrives

Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.

Returns

Unused, complete orders can be returned within 14 days of delivery; as tiles are picked and packed to your quantity, a restocking fee of 20–30% applies depending on the range. Special-order items are non-returnable unless damaged on delivery or faulty. Ordering a free sample first is the simplest way to avoid a return.

How long do Rory Dobner tiles take to arrive?

Every design is decorated to order in Rory Dobner's studio, so the range is supplied as a special order. Expect dispatch in two to four weeks, with the date confirmed once the order is placed. If you are working to a fitting date, call the Ascot showroom on 01344 620211 and we will check the current studio lead time before you commit.

Where can Rory Dobner tiles be used?

These are decorative wall tiles. They suit a splashback, an alcove, a fireplace surround, a run above a worktop, or framing and hanging as artwork. They are not intended for floors or for continuously wet positions such as the inside of a shower enclosure. If you have a particular spot in mind, call the Ascot showroom on 01344 620211 and we will confirm it for the design you have chosen.

What size are the tiles and how are they sold?

Each design is sold as a single complete tile rather than by the square metre, so you order exactly the number you need. The size for the design you are viewing is listed in the specification panel on this page; most of the range is 15 x 15cm.

Can I mix different designs together?

Yes. The alphabet, number and character tiles share the same format, so they can be combined in any order: a name, a date, a house number, or single designs scattered through a plain field. The Rory Dobner Plain Tile comes in the same size to fill the space around the decorated ones.

How should Rory Dobner tiles be cleaned?

Wipe with a soft damp cloth and a mild pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid abrasive pads, scouring creams and bleach-based products. This matters most on the gold designs, where the lustre sits over the glaze and will dull if it is scrubbed.

Can a tile be sent as a gift?

Yes. The Rory Dobner Tile Box is a handmade presentation box sized for a single tile, and can be added to your order alongside any design in the range.

Suited to wall and splashback use in dry, domestic settings. Fix with a standard wall tile adhesive and a fine joint to match the plain tiles around it. Clean with a soft damp cloth — avoid abrasive creams and harsh chemicals, which dull hand-decorated detail.
