The Finishing Touch: Palio Limestone Dado

Bring architectural definition and a sense of permanence to your interiors with the Palio Limestone Dado—a solid stone moulding designed to cap off your tiling with elegance.

Crafted from the same genuine Palio Limestone as our field tiles, this dado rail features the collection's signature creamy hues, fine sand grains, and delicate fossilised seashell figuring. It is designed with a classic profile that projects from the wall, creating a sophisticated visual stop for half-tiled walls or a decorative frame for feature panels. Sized at 30.5cm in length, it is calibrated to align perfectly with the grout lines of the Palio 30.5cm and 60cm tiles, ensuring a seamless, professional finish.

Delivery

In-stock orders are dispatched within 3–5 working days, with express options available. Special-order and made-to-order ranges carry their own lead time, shown on the product page and confirmed when you order. Pallet, slab, large-format and bathware orders travel on a specialist off-load service — we confirm the timescale and book a date that suits you before dispatch.

Delivery is calculated at checkout from your order and postcode (we do not offer showroom collection) and UK delivery is free on orders over £1,000 on most ranges. For pallet deliveries please tell us about access issues in advance — low trees or bridges, narrow roads or gateways, gravel drives, or no turning or unloading space — as a re-delivery charge may apply if we cannot complete delivery.

When your order arrives

Please check your delivery as soon as it arrives. Once goods are unloaded they become the responsibility of the receiver, so if anything isn’t right, contact us within three working days and we’ll put it right quickly.

Returns

Unused, complete orders can be returned within 14 days of delivery; as tiles are picked and packed to your quantity, a restocking fee of 20–30% applies depending on the range. Fired Earth ranges are returned through Fired Earth’s own returns process, and special-order items are non-returnable unless damaged on delivery or faulty. Ordering a free sample first is the simplest way to avoid a return.

Product Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of a Dado tile?

A dado (or moulding) tile is used to create a finished edge. It is commonly used to cap off tiles that only go halfway up a wall (wainscoting), or to create a decorative frame around a panel of different tiles, such as a mosaic.

Is this real stone?

Yes, this is genuine natural limestone. It matches the Palio floor and wall tiles perfectly, featuring the same authentic fossils and honing. It is not a ceramic imitation.

How do I go around corners?

As there are no specific "corner pieces" for this moulding, external corners should be "mitred" (cut at a 45-degree angle) by your tiler. This creates a neat, continuous join where the two pieces meet at the corner.

Does it need sealing?

Yes. Natural limestone is porous. To prevent staining and water absorption, it must be sealed. We recommend applying sealant before fixing and again after grouting.

Why buy Fired Earth tiles from Hyperion Tiles?

We are an authorised Fired Earth retailer with a family-run approach. This means you get the same premium products but with faster, personal technical support, expert advice on sealers and adhesives, and free delivery on orders over £1,000.

Installation & Care Tips

⚠️ Installation & care

  • Weight & Support: As this is a solid stone moulding (2.8cm thick), it is heavier than standard tiles. When installing horizontally, ensure it is supported with batons or spacers until the adhesive sets fully to prevent slipping.
  • Sealing is Essential: Like all Palio limestone, the dado is porous. It must be sealed to protect against staining. We recommend sealing it before installation and again after grouting.
  • Mitred Corners: For external corners (where the dado goes around a corner), the stone will need to be mitre-cut at 45 degrees. A high-quality wet cutter is essential for a clean finish.
  • Use White Adhesive: Always use a White flexible tile adhesive to prevent shadowing through the pale stone.
